New Secure Quantum Communication infrastructure initiative (EuroQCI).

The European Quantum Communication Infrastructure (EuroQCI) is an initiative to build a secure quantum communication infrastructure across the European Union (EU) and its overseas territories.

The 27 EU Member States have signed the EuroQCI Declaration, which expresses their commitment to the initiative. The EuroQCI will integrate quantum-based systems into existing communication infrastructures to provide an additional layer of security based on quantum science.

The aim is to protect sensitive data and critical infrastructures, such as governmental institutions, data centres, hospitals, and energy networks. It will become a vital component of the EU’s Cybersecurity Strategy. The EuroQCI will include a terrestrial segment using fibre communication networks and a space segment using satellites and will be fully operational by 2027. The Digital Europe program, the Connecting Europe Facility, Horizon Europe, the European Space Agency, and national funds provide the funds for the initiative. Read more here.
