$900M raised under D-Wave’s departing quantum finance chief John Markovich

D-Wave Quantum Inc. has secured over $900 million in capital as it prepares for a transition in financial leadership. Chief Financial Officer John Markovich will resign from his position on September 2, 2026, after a five-year tenure that included leading the company through its 2022 initial public offering.

Markovich’s Five-Year Tenure and $900M Capital Raise

D-Wave secured over $900 million in capital during John Markovich’s five-year tenure as Chief Financial Officer, a substantial figure for a company operating in the developing quantum computing sector. This fundraising occurred while the company worked to establish a clear route to profitability, according to D-Wave CEO Dr. Alan Baratz. Markovich’s contributions were particularly crucial in 2022 when the company successfully completed its initial public offering, a milestone that expanded D-Wave’s access to capital and visibility.

The company credits Markovich with not only raising capital but also with improving D-Wave’s overall financial performance. “John has made significant contributions to D-Wave’s success over the last five years, playing a pivotal role in taking the company public in 2022 and raising over $900 million in capital,” Baratz stated. His departure, effective September 2, 2026, is a retirement and not related to any disagreements regarding the company’s financial practices.

Senior Vice President of Finance Greg Golkov will assume the role of acting Chief Financial Officer, bringing over 25 years of experience in finance and accounting within the technology industry. Golkov previously led financial transitions at Butterfly Network, Inc. and Kaseya, demonstrating a background in building financial teams and integrating acquisitions. “I want to thank John for his partnership and wish him the very best in his retirement,” added Dr. Baratz.

John has made significant contributions to D-Wave’s success over the last five years, playing a pivotal role in taking the company public in 2022, raising over $900 million in capital, improving and growing our financial performance, and developing an achievable path for the company to reach profitability.
