IQMP Appoints Bedolla to Lead $7B Program Execution

Oscar Bedolla is joining the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park (IQMP) as Chief Strategy Officer, bringing with him direct oversight of a $7 billion global portfolio previously managed at Amazon International Corporate Finance. His appointment places him at the helm of strategic planning for the 128-acre development, designed to foster the growth of quantum technologies and deliver economic benefit to South Chicago and the wider state. “Oscar Bedolla brings public and private sector experience, with a proven track record of leading complex, large-scale initiatives and aligning diverse stakeholders,” said Dr. Harley Johnson, Executive Director and CEO of the IQMP. Bedolla’s transition from a major technology corporation signals an effort to translate advanced research into lasting community impact, as the park aims to become a global destination for quantum innovation.

Oscar Bedolla Appointed IQMP Chief Strategy Officer

This appointment signals a commitment to translating the park’s vision into tangible results, particularly as it moves beyond the initial construction phase following the Fall 2025 groundbreaking for the 128-acre development. The IQMP intends to become a central hub for quantum technology commercialization, requiring strategic oversight capable of coordinating complex public and private partnerships. Bedolla’s background extends beyond technology, encompassing significant experience in community engagement and economic development, most notably as Director of Economic and Community Development for the City of Cincinnati where he facilitated public-private partnerships and investment; this multifaceted experience is considered crucial for ensuring the IQMP delivers on its promise of “real economic benefit in South Chicago, the city and the state,” according to the park’s leadership. Dr. Johnson said, “I’m excited to join the IQMP team and help shape strategies that strengthen partnerships, support long-term growth and ensure this investment creates lasting impact for the people and communities it serves.”

This background is expected to be instrumental in streamlining project execution and aligning the diverse stakeholders necessary for the IQMP’s ambitious goals, as the 128-acre development progresses from construction, which began in Fall 2025, towards operational capacity. The park’s economic impact is specifically targeted toward South Chicago, a detail that distinguishes the IQMP’s ambitions from broader statewide benefits; this localized approach aims to address historical economic disparities through the development of a high-tech hub.

As we continue to build the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park into a global destination for quantum, we need leaders on our team who can help deliver on our bold vision.

Rusty is a quantum science nerd. He's been into academic science all his life, but spent his formative years doing less academic things. Now he turns his attention to write about his passion, the quantum realm. He loves all things Quantum Physics especially. Rusty likes the more esoteric side of Quantum Computing and the Quantum world. Everything from Quantum Entanglement to Quantum Physics. Rusty thinks that we are in the 1950s quantum equivalent of the classical computing world. While other quantum journalists focus on IBM's latest chip or which startup just raised $50 million, Rusty's over here writing 3,000-word deep dives on whether quantum entanglement might explain why you sometimes think about someone right before they text you. (Spoiler: it doesn't, but the exploration is fascinating)
