SilOriX reports demonstrating record-breaking data-rates through its advanced slot-modulator designs, a capability now being paired with NLM Photonics’ Selerion-HTX electro-optic material under a new Joint Development Agreement. The collaboration unites a spin-out from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology with NLM’s silicon-organic hybrid technology to advance photonic integrated circuits for high-speed optical communications.
“SilOriX brings expertise in SOH device design as well as firsthand experience with our materials,” said Brad Booth, CEO of NLM Photonics, noting the agreement expands incorporation of Selerion-HTX in energy-efficient systems. This partnership builds on prior research connections between the two organizations and the University of Washington.
SilOriX Modulators Combine with NLM’s Selerion-HTX Materials
SilOriX has demonstrated data-rates exceeding previous benchmarks using its slot-modulator designs and processes, a feat that will now benefit from direct material integration. The company’s modulators will combine with NLM Photonics’ Selerion-HTX electro-optic materials to accelerate development of photonic integrated circuits. This collaboration targets high-speed, energy-efficient optical communications, addressing growing bandwidth demands in data centers and AI infrastructure. Initial SOH research at KIT included collaborative work with the University of Washington and NLM Photonics, establishing a foundation for this joint development agreement.
Adrian Mertens, CEO of SilOriX, highlighted the scalability and efficiency of their technology, stating, “With our advanced slot-modulator designs and processes, we have demonstrated record-breaking data-rates and proven the SOH technology to be fast, efficient and scalable.” NLM Photonics’ Selerion material family, combined with standard silicon photonic manufacturing, provides a blueprint for building high-bandwidth interconnects, and the company anticipates this collaboration will further refine those capabilities. “NLM has done an incredible job of demonstrating outstanding material performance and stability, and we look forward to building on our complementary expertise,” Mertens concluded.
