IQM Dual Stock Listing Only Third Finnish Company to Do So.

IQM Quantum Computers recently achieved a dual listing on both Nasdaq New York and Nasdaq Helsinki, becoming only the third Finnish company, following Nokia and Stora Enso, to do so, the company says. The company’s success challenges the long-held assumption that European deep tech firms must relocate to the United States to access substantial capital.

Underpinning this listing was demonstrable traction, not just structure; IQM entered the market with over €67 million in backlog, growing to over €102 million by Q2, and 26 systems already sold to clients including Deutsche Bahn and the LUMI AI Factory. The company suggests this dual listing is a model for European deep tech, signaling a new path for ambitious founders.

IQM’s Dual Listing Sets New Standard for European Deep Tech

The company’s approach signals a potential shift in how European technology firms pursue funding and expansion, offering a model for future ambition. A special-purpose acquisition company merger facilitated access to the public markets, but the underlying technology, team, revenue, and backlog sustained investor interest after the initial listing, with the stock initially rising more than 50 percent.

The company’s success is rooted in a team of over 400 employees, spanning 50 nationalities across 12 sites, including locations in Espoo, Munich, Oulu, Paris, and Singapore, according to IQM Quantum Computers. This international workforce, many holding PhDs in quantum and related fields, underscores IQM’s ability to attract top talent without necessitating a relocation of its core operations.

The firm’s origins as a spinout from Aalto University, coupled with a strong patent portfolio, further highlight the strength of the European quantum ecosystem, where roughly a third of the world’s approximately 500 quantum startups are located. IQM’s prospectus acknowledges the inherent risks in the quantum computing field, stating that “large-scale commercial traction of quantum computing technology may never occur,” a level of candor that likely resonates with institutional investors.

This transparency contrasts with the tendency to oversell potential, building credibility and fostering a more realistic assessment of long-term prospects. By remaining independent and public, rather than being acquired solely for its intellectual property, the company can capitalize on the compounding effect of talent and innovation within Europe.

The listing also positions IQM to play a role in the consolidation of the quantum computing sector, providing capital and public stock for potential acquisitions, mirroring the strategy employed by IonQ, which has already completed eight acquisitions including a $1.1 billion deal in the UK, the company says. This ability to act as a consolidator, rather than a target, represents a significant advantage in a rapidly evolving field.

European governments have committed close to $14 billion to quantum research over the past five years, creating a supportive environment for companies like IQM to thrive. For European deep tech founders, IQM’s path demonstrates that accessing US capital while maintaining a European identity is achievable, but requires sustained effort; building category-leading technology, securing real revenues, and establishing a European-anchored syndicate are crucial prerequisites.
