Pasqal Partners With Gesda To Boost Open Quantum Institute'S Global Access To Quantum Computing

PASQAL, a neutral atoms quantum computing leader, has partnered with the Geneva Science and Diplomacy Anticipator (GESDA) to support the Open Quantum Institute (OQI) initiative. The OQI aims to make high-performance quantum computers accessible to all, with a focus on accelerating the UN’s sustainable development goals in health, energy, and climate protection. The initiative will be hosted by CERN and supported by the Union Bank of Switzerland. PASQAL and GESDA will explore opportunities to support OQI activities, including providing cloud access to PASQAL’s quantum devices and technical expertise.

PASQAL and GESDA Collaborate on Open Quantum Institute Initiative

Paris-based quantum computing company, PASQAL, and the Geneva Science and Diplomacy Anticipator (GESDA), a non-profit Swiss foundation, have announced a collaboration to support the “Open Quantum Institute” (OQI) initiative. The OQI, announced on October 13 during the “Geneva Political Talks on Science and Diplomacy”, aims to make high-performance quantum computers accessible to all interested parties. The initiative is designed to accelerate the implementation of the UN’s sustainable development goals (SDGs) in various fields including health, energy, and climate protection.

The OQI will be hosted by CERN and financially supported by the Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS). GESDA has been instrumental in the design and incubation of the OQI initiative, with the aim of promoting global, inclusive, and equitable access to quantum computing technology and knowledge.

Goals of the Open Quantum Institute

The OQI has several key goals. Firstly, it aims to realise the full potential of quantum for humanity by bringing together quantum researchers and developers, entrepreneurs, and innovation cells of UN organisations. Secondly, it seeks to provide global and broad access to a large pool of private and public quantum computers through the cloud. Thirdly, it aims to educate to enable everyone to contribute and leverage quantum computing. Lastly, it seeks to activate diplomacy to shape a multilateral governance of quantum for the UN’s SDG goals.

PASQAL’s Role in the Open Quantum Institute

PASQAL and GESDA have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to become supporting partners of this global initiative. PASQAL will explore opportunities to support OQI activities, mainly in the implementation of use cases. This includes providing cloud access to PASQAL’s quantum devices, tools, training, onboarding materials, as well as technical expertise to support the implementation of use cases and algorithms.

Importance of Diverse Quantum Processors

Catherine Lefebvre, VP Global Policy & Partnerships at PASQAL and Senior Advisor for the OQI at GESDA, highlighted the importance of providing cloud access to a wide range of state-of-the-art quantum processors. These processors, coming from diverse sources (large corporates as well as startups and public sector), cover diverse modalities and geographies. PASQAL’s technology, with its analog neutral atom devices, will enable the implementation of SDG use cases and play a critical role in the success of the OQI.

PASQAL’s Commitment to Sustainable Future

For PASQAL, this collaboration presents an opportunity to reach out to different communities of end-users and actively play a key role in harnessing quantum computing for the transformation of our world towards a more sustainable future. The company expressed its delight in partnering with GESDA to support the activities of the OQI.

“We recognized for the OQI the importance of providing cloud access to a wide range of state-of-the-art quantum processors, covering diverse modalities, diverse geographies, and coming from diverse sources (large corporates as well as startups and public sector),” said Catherine Lefebvre, VP Global Policy & Partnerships at PASQAL and Senior Advisor for the OQI at GESDA. “PASQAL’s technology, with its analog neutral atom devices, will enable the implementation of SDG use cases and play a critical role in the success of the OQI.“

“For PASQAL it is an opportunity to reach out to different communities of end-users and actively play a key role in harnessing quantum computing for the transformation of our world towards a more sustainable future. We’re delighted to partner with GESDA to support the activities of the OQI,”
