Quantum tech on the agenda as GESDA meets with security body states

GESDA was invited to brief member states and representatives of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) on science anticipation, focusing on developments in quantum technologies on October 21 and 22, 2026, as part of Switzerland’s 2026 OSCE Chairpersonship, supporting one of its five key priorities: Anticipating technologies for a safe and humane future. Mira Wolf-Bauwens, GESDA Head of Initiatives Development, provided briefings at the Residency of the Ambassador to Slovenia and at the OSCE Headquarters. Wolf-Bauwens stated that “Anticipation is not a contradiction to attention to current matters; it helps ensure that the security being defended today is not quietly lost tomorrow.”

GESDA Director General Marilyne Andersen also participated in key OSCE events, including the Conference in Geneva and the 32nd OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum in Prague, further solidifying the organization’s commitment to providing scientific insights to the OSCE. The Geneva Public Portal to Anticipation allows citizens to create their own visions of the future.

Anticipation is not a contradiction from attention to current matters. It helps ensure that the security being defended today is not quietly lost tomorrow. The question is not whether the OSCE can afford to look ahead in such times, but rather whether it can afford not to.

Rusty is a quantum science nerd. He's been into academic science all his life, but spent his formative years doing less academic things. Now he turns his attention to write about his passion, the quantum realm. He loves all things Quantum Physics especially. Rusty likes the more esoteric side of Quantum Computing and the Quantum world. Everything from Quantum Entanglement to Quantum Physics. Rusty thinks that we are in the 1950s quantum equivalent of the classical computing world. While other quantum journalists focus on IBM's latest chip or which startup just raised $50 million, Rusty's over here writing 3,000-word deep dives on whether quantum entanglement might explain why you sometimes think about someone right before they text you. (Spoiler: it doesn't, but the exploration is fascinating)
