MulticoreWare buys Simulus Automation to build chips in-house

On September 2, 2026, MulticoreWare announced its acquisition of Simulus Automation, a semiconductor design and verification specialist, to directly integrate hardware expertise into its AI and accelerated computing solutions. The move addresses a critical shift in chip design where System-on-Chips are now expanding beyond CPUs, GPUs, and NPUs to incorporate programmable logic like FPGAs.

This integration aims to resolve connectivity bottlenecks arising from increasingly complex architectures and deliver a unified pipeline from silicon design to software deployment. Simulus Automation Expands MulticoreWare’s Heterogeneous Compute Portfolio

MulticoreWare now possesses in-house expertise in Field Programmable Gate Arrays, completing its portfolio of heterogeneous compute technologies; the company previously focused on CPUs, GPUs, DSPs, and NPUs. This expansion directly addresses a critical shift in chip architecture where System-on-Chips increasingly integrate programmable logic directly into the silicon fabric, offering both power efficiency and design flexibility. Managing data flow across these diverse architectures presents significant challenges, and MulticoreWare aims to resolve these connectivity bottlenecks through the acquisition of Simulus Automation.

The integration of Simulus Automation’s capabilities extends beyond simply adding FPGA expertise; the company specializes in design and verification for SoCs, chipsets, and accelerator technologies. This focus on verification is particularly crucial as advanced SoCs grapple with high-speed data transfer limitations, and the acquisition brings extensive knowledge of both CXL and PCIe protocols.
