The New Mexico Quantum Technologies Award, managed by the Economic Development Department’s Technology & Innovation Office, provides up to $200,000 to early-stage quantum firms; two companies are establishing a New Mexico presence through the grant program. “These awards build directly on the momentum in New Mexico’s quantum sector, which was recently recognized by the Federal Laboratory Consortium,” said Economic Development Cabinet Secretary Rob Black. The capital supports companies like Bandelier Technologies and Mesa Quantum, developing innovations ranging from quantum sensors to chip-scale clocks, and solidifies New Mexico’s position within a rapidly advancing field.

The New Mexico Quantum Technologies Award has injected $1.2 million into six companies, demonstrating a strategy to cultivate a quantum ecosystem within the state. This competitive grant program, distributing up to $200,000 per recipient, funds existing ventures and attracts external investment and expertise to the region, bolstering local economic development alongside scientific advancement. Mesa Quantum, a repeat awardee having received a pilot grant in 2025, will use this funding to build on previous state-enabled work, including expanding its footprint in Albuquerque. The program supports both hardware and software development; Conductor Quantum is building AI tools to operate and scale quantum computers, with the goal of creating an AI agent that operates a quantum computer to make discoveries beyond the reach of human minds.
UbiQD, a New Mexico-based nanotechnology company specializing in quantum dots, is leveraging the funding to expand its manufacturing capacity. TIO Director Nora Meyers Sackett highlighted the state’s comprehensive approach, noting, “From the Elevate Quantum Tech Hub to our partnership with DARPA’s Quantum Benchmarking Initiative and investing in tomorrow’s quantum leaders, we’re creating the ecosystem companies need to innovate, grow, and choose New Mexico.”

The company’s flagship product, Coda, is the natural language interface for quantum computing, enabling anyone or any agent to use a quantum computer, and is used by employees at technology firms including NVIDIA and Arm. Bandelier Technologies, a Santa Fe-based quantum sensing company, also received $200,000 to further develop its quantum hardware systems and associated AI models, focusing on bridging the gap between theoretical quantum science and practical applications in areas like defense and critical infrastructure, operating in close collaboration with Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Beyond Mesa Photonics, Mesa Quantum Systems Inc. is focused on commercializing chip-scale quantum clocks and sensors designed for large-scale manufacturing, receiving another $200,000 award after a successful pilot grant in 2025. The company leverages expertise originating from Sandia and NIST national laboratories in vapor cell-based devices, with a vision to make quantum sensors accessible for widespread use. Mesa Quantum will use this funding to build on work previously enabled by the state, including expanding its footprint in Albuquerque. The $1.2 million influx is supporting the growth of quantum technology in New Mexico.
