Get To Know Mila, The Largest Ai Institute In Montreal, Quebec

Mila is the institution brought by the collaboration of Université de Montréal and McGill University, with assistance from Polytechnique Montréal and HEC Montréal. Composed of a group of scientists and interdisciplinary teams dedicated to advancing artificial intelligence for the benefit of all. Founded by Professor Yoshua Bengio of the University of Montreal, the company is an artificial intelligence research institute that brings together nearly 900 machine learning researchers.

The Mila community has the world’s highest concentration of deep-learning academic researchers. The institute is well-known for its expertise and substantial contributions to modelling language, machine translation, object recognition, and generative models.

Mila has focused its objective since its founding on essential research topics such as health, the environment and climate change, and AI ethics. Mila leverages its AI expertise and leadership to deliver advances that benefit society. They are internationally recognized for the quality and impact of their academic research and also work with businesses and organizations daily to expedite the adoption and implementation of artificial intelligence in their operations. Mila’s experts are dedicated to making AI more accessible and actionable for businesses, organizations, the economy, and society, whether through collaborative research, technology transfer, proof-of-concept development, or AI experimentation.

Part of its core research is on Machine Learning Technology. Mila’s Applied Machine Learning Research Team collaborates with businesses on high-impact, difficult machine-learning initiatives. The team’s one-of-a-kind collaborative approach aims to design and implement cutting-edge solutions that benefit organizations by enhancing their machine-learning capabilities.

They have cooperated with CDPQ on a research initiative to investigate machine learning-based investment strategies for projecting stock allocations based simply on past asset prices. These momentum-based tactics produced intriguing results in the recent literature, and we wanted to confirm their application to the CDPQ investing scenario.

Partnering with Quantum Computing Leaders

Furthermore, Mila has paved its way to partner with Leading Quantum Tech companies such as Multiverse,  a European quantum computing company focused on delivering value-based quantum computing solutions. The collaboration will initially focus on the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. The partnership will bring quantum and quantum-inspired machine learning to Mila researchers and students.

Multiverse Computing is supported by tensor networks, and Mila has several researchers with competence in this area. These networks use quantum physics models to improve the speed and precision of training ML models.

Mila has also partnered with Agnostiq, a quantum computing Saas startup, and other several leading technological ML companies, namely Armilla AI, BusPac Inc, Lucid, and Statistics Canada to enhance research developments in the industry.
