National Quantum Computing Centre signs deal with Phasecraft for UK access

The UK’s National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC) will begin accepting applications in late November 2026 from businesses and researchers seeking access to quantum software developed by Phasecraft. This collaboration, announced recently, marks the first time the NQCC is offering software through its SparQ Access initiative, targeting practical applications in materials science, chemistry and optimisation, Phasecraft says. Phasecraft CEO Ashley Montanaro said, “We’re thrilled to put Phasecraft’s technology to work and make quantum computing useful for teams across the UK.”

Phasecraft Tools Enable Materials, Molecular, and Optimization Access

Phasecraft’s software suite will be available to UK organizations through the National Quantum Computing Centre’s SparQ Access initiative, with three distinct tools forming the core of the offering. Monet applies quantum enhancement to density functional theory, enabling more accurate modelling of materials and molecular systems. Finally, Mondrian is a quantum-enhanced optimisation platform accessible via web interface or API, designed to accelerate solutions for complex problems in finance, logistics and infrastructure.

The NQCC will begin accepting expressions of interest from potential users in late November 2026, a specific timeline considering the early stage of quantum software accessibility. Selected participants will gain access to these tools alongside support from Phasecraft’s scientists and engineers, with places also reserved for non-commercial research conducted by the NQCC and academic institutions.

This targeted approach focuses initial efforts on materials science, chemistry and optimisation, rather than a broad, open call for proposals. “Our mission at the NQCC is to ensure that UK businesses, academia and the public sector are well positioned to realise the benefits of quantum computing,” said Simon Plant, Deputy Director at the National Quantum Computing Centre.

“This new partnership with Phasecraft marks the first time we are making quantum software available through our SparQ programme, helping organisations develop the skills, knowledge and experience they need as they work towards quantum readiness.” The first cohort of users is scheduled to begin work with the software in Spring 2027, establishing a near-term goal for demonstrating practical applications of the collaboration.

The NQCC has long been a leader in providing UK businesses and researchers with access to cutting-edge quantum hardware. Now, with this groundbreaking partnership, these organisations will also have access to the world’s best quantum software.

Ivy Delaney has been working with neural networks and machine learning since the mid-nineties, back when a couple of hidden layers and a long afternoon of training counted as ambitious. She has watched the field go from academic curiosity to the thing quietly running underneath everything, and she brings that long view to quantum computing. For Quantum Zeitgeist she covers the ground where the two fields meet. That means quantum machine learning and the variational algorithms it leans on, and it also means the less glamorous but more interesting story of classical machine learning already doing real work inside quantum machines, decoding error-correcting codes, calibrating noisy hardware and learning the error models that simulators depend on. She writes about the hardware those algorithms have to run on too, and about the post-quantum cryptography scramble that the same hardware has set off. Her stories typically start with the paper, whether that is peer-reviewed work, conference proceedings or an arXiv preprint, with the source linked so you can hold a claim up against the research it came from. She is unimpressed by benchmarks that will not say what they beat, and by demonstrations that only work in the press release.
