SEALSQ unveiled VaultIC409, a secure element built on the QS7001 platform currently undergoing Common Criteria EAL5+ certification, to address the escalating cybersecurity threats posed by advancing quantum computing. The new chip offers existing VaultIC408 customers a path to post-quantum security without redesigning their hardware, targeting smart energy, industrial and IoT markets. “VaultIC409 gives our customers a direct path to post-quantum security on a certified platform they already know,” said Carlos Moreira, Founder and CEO of SEALSQ. Engineering samples of VaultIC409 are planned for release in Q2 2027.
QS7001 Platform Enables VaultIC409’s CC EAL5+ Certification
The VaultIC409 secure element is currently undergoing Common Criteria EAL5+ certification, a rigorous process indicating a high level of assurance for its security capabilities. This certification builds upon the QS7001 platform, establishing a foundation for post-quantum cryptographic implementations in connected devices. It provides the architectural basis for cryptographic agility. This allows the secure element to support a range of algorithms, including both current standards like RSA and ECC, and emerging Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) algorithms such as ML-KEM and ML-DSA.
This flexibility is important as the industry transitions toward quantum-resistant cryptography, enabling manufacturers to adapt to evolving standards and maintain long-term security. “Quantum computing is transforming the way hardware manufacturers must approach security. With VaultIC409, we are bringing together cryptographic agility, dedicated hardware acceleration and SPI connectivity to address the practical challenges of deploying Post-Quantum Cryptography in embedded devices,” said Gweltas Radenac, Product Marketing Director at SEALSQ.
This timing is critical, given the approaching deadlines for compliance with new security regulations in both the European Union and the United States. The EU’s Cyber Resilience Act and the U.S. National Security Agency’s Commercial National Security Algorithm Suite 2. 0 (CNSA 2. 0) are driving demand for quantum-resistant security solutions. SEALSQ anticipates that VaultIC409 will help customers meet these requirements by providing a hardware-based foundation for secure device identity, key protection and secure communications.
The secure element’s design incorporates a dedicated hardware accelerator for computationally intensive cryptographic operations. VaultIC409 uses a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) to handle the larger data volumes associated with PQC algorithms, including expanded public keys, signatures and certificates. This SPI connectivity addresses a key challenge in deploying quantum-ready security in embedded systems, where bandwidth and data transfer rates can be limited. The increasing number of connected devices is driving the need for robust hardware security. IoT Analytics forecasts 39 billion connected IoT devices by 2030, representing a 13. 2% compound annual growth rate from 2025.
This expansion is particularly pronounced in sectors like smart utilities and industrial automation, where long-term reliability and security are paramount. VaultIC409 aims to address these growing security needs by providing a secure element designed for the next decade of connected computing, reinforcing SEALSQ’s commitment to advanced semiconductor technologies. The ability to support RSA, ECC and PQC algorithms, combined with a hardware platform undergoing Common Criteria EAL5+ certification, gives manufacturers a foundation to provision identities, establish secure channels and anchor trust at runtime while preparing their products for the quantum era.
