C-DoT Launches 14 Quantum Products for India

C-DoT unveiled nearly 14 quantum products at its 43rd foundation day event, signaling a concrete push into quantum technology beyond theoretical discussion. This announcement comes as a Tata Consultancy Services-led consortium has already deployed an indigenous 4G technology stack at 1 lakh sites nationwide for BSNL, demonstrating existing Indian capability in telecom infrastructure. Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani stated that India aspires to write the standards for the next generation of wireless technology and establish a global leadership position.

The unveiling demonstrates a focused effort to establish India as a leader in these emerging fields, rather than simply adopting standards set elsewhere. This deployment establishes India as the fifth country globally with a self-reliant 4G technology, currently serving 22 million subscribers, and provides a solid foundation for future advancements toward 5G and 6G. Pemmasani emphasized the collective responsibility to build a complete telecom ecosystem, stating, “We all have equal responsibility to build the entire ecosystem, whether it is 4G, 5G, or quantum.

The whole thing is to build India, and that is the primary purpose for Development of Telematics (C-DoT).” Beyond infrastructure, the government is also focused on mitigating digital threats. Strategic initiatives like the Sanchar Saathi application, coupled with a financial fraud risk indicator, have collectively prevented an estimated ₹4,000 crore in cyber fraud losses within India.

Pemmasani highlighted the importance of translating research into practical applications, urging C-DoT to “reduce the distance between invention and implementation,” and noting the organization’s financial growth from ₹80 crores to ₹600 crores in recent years. “We have the opportunity to impact 6G, rather than just reading the standards. We have an opportunity to write those standards at this time because of the government push. We also have an opportunity to make an impact in quantum communications and quantum security,” Pemmasani added, outlining the scope of India’s aspirations in these critical technological domains.
