Qubo and Mitacs launch quantum skills workshops across Canada

Starting October 29, 2026, Qubo Consulting Corporation and Mitacs will offer six workshops across Canada designed to rapidly build the nation’s quantum workforce. The series includes a hands-on “Young’s Double Slit Demo & Workshop” alongside sessions covering quantum materials, sensing, computing, and networking, targeting post-secondary students with both technical and non-technical backgrounds.

“Training the quantum-ready talent today ensures we can turn ideas into results that drive economic growth, positioning Canada to continue as a leader in quantum technology,” says Michelle Aguayo, Vice President, Operations and Program Management at Mitacs. These bilingual workshops aim to connect students with industry leaders and accelerate Canada’s position in the growing quantum technology sector.

Qubo and Mitacs Launch Bilingual Quantum Workforce Workshops

The series of six workshops, beginning October 29, 2026, will provide bilingual training in quantum technologies to students across Canada, addressing a growing need for specialized talent as the field moves toward commercialization. Qubo Consulting and Mitacs designed the workshops to accommodate both technical and non-technical participants, using live lectures, interactive case studies and insights from companies like VeriQloud and Applied Quantum Materials, the company says.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage with experts from these quantum firms, gaining exposure to real-world applications and industry perspectives. This commitment to accessibility is further reinforced by the availability of bilingual support in both English and French, provided by quantum experts from the Quantum AlgoLab at the Institut Quantique, Université de Sherbrooke.

Dr. Katanya Kuntz, Founder, CEO and Chief Quantum Scientist of Qubo Consulting, explained the organization’s approach, stating, “At Qubo, our goal is to take a complex topic like quantum physics and provide an engaging, educational workshop experience. We connect quantum concepts to real-world examples, showing how businesses can apply quantum principles.” Registration for all workshops is free for students, postdoctoral fellows, recent graduates and Mitacs program participants from Canadian institutions, and will be delivered live online via the EDGE by Mitacs Training Portal. Mitacs receives funding from multiple provincial and federal governments, including the Government of Canada, the Government of Alberta and the Government of Quebec, supporting its mission to connect innovation with talent and ambition.

The quantum ecosystem is growing as quantum technologies move from the lab into the market, and so is the demand for quantum talent in Canada.

Ivy Delaney has been working with neural networks and machine learning since the mid-nineties, back when a couple of hidden layers and a long afternoon of training counted as ambitious. She has watched the field go from academic curiosity to the thing quietly running underneath everything, and she brings that long view to quantum computing. For Quantum Zeitgeist she covers the ground where the two fields meet. That means quantum machine learning and the variational algorithms it leans on, and it also means the less glamorous but more interesting story of classical machine learning already doing real work inside quantum machines, decoding error-correcting codes, calibrating noisy hardware and learning the error models that simulators depend on. She writes about the hardware those algorithms have to run on too, and about the post-quantum cryptography scramble that the same hardware has set off. Her stories typically start with the paper, whether that is peer-reviewed work, conference proceedings or an arXiv preprint, with the source linked so you can hold a claim up against the research it came from. She is unimpressed by benchmarks that will not say what they beat, and by demonstrations that only work in the press release.
