From a field of 63 applications spanning 12 countries, QAI Ventures has selected four startups to join its inaugural Singapore Quantum Accelerator, each receiving a SGD 300,000 investment package alongside mentorship and network access. The launch marks the first program of its kind in Singapore and signals a significant expansion for the global venture capital firm into the Asia-Pacific market. Regenesis Materials of Indonesia is among the chosen companies, representing the first Indonesian firm included in this program. “Singapore made an early and patient bet on quantum, and that foundation is now translating into a commercial opportunity that is maturing,” said Alexandra Beckstein, CEO of QAI Ventures, emphasizing the firm’s role in bridging the gap between research and viable businesses.
The launch of QAI Ventures’ Singapore Quantum Accelerator demonstrates a competitive landscape; 63 applications from 12 countries were submitted for only four available slots. Supported by Enterprise Singapore and aligned with Singapore’s National Quantum Strategy, the five-month accelerator aims to translate scientific advancements into viable companies operating within the Asia-Pacific market, a region increasingly focused on quantum technologies. Each selected startup will receive an investment package of SGD 300,000, alongside mentorship and access to a global network cultivated by QAI Ventures. This initiative builds upon nearly two decades of sustained investment by Singapore in quantum research, beginning with the establishment of the Centre for Quantum Technologies at the National University of Singapore in 2007. That early commitment is now yielding tangible results, as evidenced by the SGD 37 billion allocated under Singapore’s Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2030 plan. The program’s international scope is highlighted by the inclusion of Regenesis Materials from Indonesia, the first company from that nation to participate. The accelerator’s structure, running from July to October, centers around four intensive Masterclass Weeks in Singapore, complemented by weekly one-on-one coaching sessions. QAI Ventures’ portfolio companies have already attracted over USD 250 million in follow-on funding from major investors including IBM, GitHub, and the European Investment Bank, indicating confidence in the firm’s ability to identify and nurture promising quantum ventures. Sophia Ng, Executive Director, Startup Ecosystem, Enterprise Singapore, emphasized the program’s role in fostering globally competitive quantum companies, stating, “The next phase is to build globally competitive, best-in-class quantum companies.” The program will conclude with an Investor Day and Demo Day, designed to connect startups with potential funding partners and expand the quantum ecosystem. Beyond financial support, the accelerator provides access to crucial resources like quantum hardware, cloud computing, and simulation testbeds through partnerships with companies including IonQ, QuEra, and Fujitsu, aiming to bridge the gap between laboratory research and viable commercial applications.
