Matthew Zajac has joined The Bloch Quantum Tech Hub as director of operations and strategic engagement, bringing experience managing large-scale research and economic development initiatives. The Chicago Quantum Exchange-led hub has raised nearly $55 million to establish a national quantum supply chain, addressing a critical reliance on foreign imports.
A $30 million award from the US Economic Development Administration, announced in July, unlocked further investment in the project, which aims to leverage Midwest manufacturing capacity. Zajac will report to Jean-Luc Cambier, The Bloch’s Regional Innovation Officer, managing day-to-day operations including the Qreate project, which will establish a shared quantum sensing testbed at Purdue Northwest.

According to the hub’s documentation, a central goal of the project is transitioning Midwest quantum companies to scaled manufacturing. Another project, Qapacity, led by the Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center, focuses on integrating existing manufacturers into a domestic quantum supply chain. The hub also aims to bolster security for US quantum technologies and mobilize an additional $300 million in investment through its AQtivate project. A facility at the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park, known as The FaQtory, will connect suppliers with customers, further strengthening the emerging industry.
