Archer Materials joins Australian quantum push at US Congress

In September, Archer Materials CEO Dr. Simon Ruffell and Executive Chair Greg English joined a national delegation at the Quantum World Congress in Maryland, positioning the company within a key international event. Quantum Australia CEO Petra Andrén delivered the Australian Country Update, highlighting Australia’s quantum capability to a global audience as part of the Congress’s National Quantum Updates Program. Archer’s strategic partner, IonQ (NYSE: IONQ), also had a prominent role at the event, as the Australian company focused on building international partnerships and exploring commercial opportunities.

Archer Materials’ Participation in Quantum World Congress 2026

The Congress provided a platform for direct engagement with quantum companies, researchers and investors from across the globe, allowing Archer to explore avenues for commercializing its quantum technologies. A key objective for the company was establishing relationships that could expand access to advanced quantum computing capabilities, particularly through its collaboration with IonQ.

Archer joined Analog Quantum Circuits, the ARC Centre of Excellence in Quantum Biotechnology, BluGlass Limited and Silicon Quantum Computing as part of the national showcase of Australia’s quantum ecosystem. According to the company, “Building international relationships, exploring opportunities for collaboration and commercialisation, and connecting with organisations interested in the practical application of quantum technologies” were central to Archer’s participation.

Archer acknowledged the support of Quantum Australia, the Australian Trade and Investment Commission and the Tech Council of Australia in facilitating the delegation and enabling valuable international engagement. This involvement emphasises a coordinated national effort to position Australia as a key player in the rapidly evolving quantum field.

Ivy Delaney has been working with neural networks and machine learning since the mid-nineties, back when a couple of hidden layers and a long afternoon of training counted as ambitious. She has watched the field go from academic curiosity to the thing quietly running underneath everything, and she brings that long view to quantum computing. For Quantum Zeitgeist she covers the ground where the two fields meet. That means quantum machine learning and the variational algorithms it leans on, and it also means the less glamorous but more interesting story of classical machine learning already doing real work inside quantum machines, decoding error-correcting codes, calibrating noisy hardware and learning the error models that simulators depend on. She writes about the hardware those algorithms have to run on too, and about the post-quantum cryptography scramble that the same hardware has set off. Her stories typically start with the paper, whether that is peer-reviewed work, conference proceedings or an arXiv preprint, with the source linked so you can hold a claim up against the research it came from. She is unimpressed by benchmarks that will not say what they beat, and by demonstrations that only work in the press release.
