Trump Administration Attracts $100B More From TSMC for Chips

Building on an existing commitment to U.S. manufacturing, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will invest an additional $100 billion in American semiconductor facilities, bringing its total planned investment to $265 billion. This expansion will result in four new advanced semiconductor and packaging facilities, increasing TSMC’s total planned footprint in the United States to twelve. The announcement follows an agreement in March 2025 where TSMC committed to expanding its original $65 billion investment by another $100 billion, demonstrating an increase in U.S. production. “President Trump’s leadership is driving companies to invest in American manufacturing,” said Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.

TSMC’s investment in U.S. semiconductor manufacturing totals $265 billion with the newly announced $100 billion investment, building upon plans initially revealed in March 2025 when the company agreed to expand its original $65 billion commitment. This financial undertaking expands existing projects designed to bolster domestic chip production and secure a critical supply chain. The announcement follows a trade and investment deal between the U.S. and Taiwan, facilitated by the American Institute in Taiwan and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States, signaling a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening U.S. technological leadership. TSMC anticipates that these investments will generate construction and high-tech employment opportunities and stimulate billions in indirect economic output as the company implements its plan. The trade deal is also projected to catalyze $250 billion in direct investments by Taiwanese semiconductor and other enterprises, and an additional $250 billion in Taiwan investment to bring other critical elements of the semiconductor supply chain to the U.S.
