SeQure Quantum, a Chilean company building self-testing quantum random number generators, secured third place in the Startup Pitch Competition at Quantum World Congress Park, Maryland. Among seven finalists representing six countries, the company’s SeQRNG technology, which verifies the quality of generated random numbers in real time, stood out to judges.
“Being recognized in the field of quantum communication was tremendously valuable,” said Paulina Assmann, co-founder and CEO of SeQure Quantum. Currently used in operational lotteries, SeQRNG will expand into the United States market following the company’s successful showing at the Congress building on an existing Latin American client base in Chile, Brazil and Argentina.
SeQure Quantum Achieves Third Place at Quantum World Congress 2026
Unlike conventional quantum random number generators, SeQRNG verifies the unpredictability of its output in real time, a feature currently deployed in operational lotteries and attracting attention from sectors demanding high-grade cryptographic security. SeQure Quantum, founded in 2019 with roots in research at the Universidad de Concepción in Chile and the University of Gdansk in Poland, opened a Polish subsidiary in Sopot in 2023 to facilitate European commercial relationships.
This strategic move, combined with a 2024 partnership with Thales integrating SeQRNG entropy into Thales data protection modules, positioned the company for a focused push into the United States market. The congress provided important insights and bolstered confidence in pursuing this expansion building on existing work with Thales aimed at applications in the space sector.
The development of SeQRNG stems from co-founders Gustavo Lima and Marcin Pawlowski’s 2019 patent for a self-testing quantum random number generator, a concept initially explored through Pawlowski’s leadership of the quantum cybersecurity group at ICTQT, University of Gdansk. This foundational research, coupled with the company’s commitment to building hardware that actively confirms its own security, sets it apart from competitors relying on statistical post-processing to assess randomness.
The ability to demonstrably prove the entropy of generated keys is increasingly vital as quantum computing advances and threatens existing encryption standards, and SeQure Quantum’s approach offers a proactive solution. The company’s presence at the Quantum World Congress extended beyond the pitch competition, with a dedicated exhibit showing SeQRNG to industry leaders, investors and potential partners.
This direct engagement proved instrumental in solidifying the company’s vision of exporting technology from Chile to a global audience, and in validating its trajectory toward commercial deployments beyond its current applications, SeQure Quantum says. SeQure Quantum’s achievement emphasises the growing international recognition of Latin American innovation in the rapidly evolving field of quantum technologies.
Being recognized in the field of quantum communication was tremendously valuable. This third place proves that what we are doing in Chile is on par with the best.
