Quandela and Quanova team up to grow quantum skills in Vietnam

During the Vietnam-France Leaders Forum, with French President Emmanuel Macron and Vietnamese General Secretary and President Tô Lâm in attendance, Quandela and Quanova formalized a strategic partnership to accelerate quantum computing development in Vietnam. The agreement unites Quandela’s full-stack photonic quantum computing platform with Quanova’s local expertise, supported by investment from Nam A Bank, to cultivate talent and identify practical applications, the company says. “Vietnam is emerging as one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic quantum ecosystems,” says Quandela, with the ambition to establish trained personnel, access to photonic quantum computing, and collaborative projects for Vietnamese institutions.

Quandela’s Photonic Platform Fuels Vietnam’s Quantum Ecosystem

Nam A Bank is committing strategic investment to bolster Quanova’s efforts in building a robust quantum computing ecosystem within Vietnam, signaling a financial commitment extending beyond simple technology transfer. The high-level political support underscores a deliberate, nationally-prioritized push for quantum computing, elevating the initiative beyond a typical commercial agreement. Quandela’s contribution to this venture centers on its full-stack photonic quantum computing platform, a technology utilizing single photons, particles of light, as qubits, the fundamental units of quantum information, according to the company.

Founded in 2017 as a spin-off from the Institut d’Optique Graduate School, Quandela has quickly become a European leader in this specialized field, currently employing approximately 150 people and having raised over €107 million in funding. The company’s approach to photonic qubits allows for operation at room temperature, potentially simplifying infrastructure requirements and reducing operational costs compared to systems relying on superconducting qubits.

Recent partnerships, including a 2024 collaboration with GENCI to integrate its quantum computer into national high-performance computing infrastructure, demonstrate Quandela’s growing influence and technological maturity. The partnership with Quanova will focus on cultivating local talent and identifying practical applications for quantum computing in Vietnam, encompassing training programs for technical and commercial teams, joint solution development, and engagement with Vietnamese academic and industrial partners. Quanova is the strategic integrator, tailoring Quandela’s platform to meet the specific needs of the Vietnamese market and driving the adoption of quantum solutions across various sectors.

Quanova Integrates Quandela Technology for Local Vietnamese Development

The partnership between Quandela and Quanova includes a commitment from Nam A Bank to financially support Quanova’s role in integrating quantum technologies, signaling confidence in the long-term viability of quantum computing within Vietnam’s developing tech sector. This investment extends beyond simply importing technology; it aims to cultivate a self-sustaining quantum ecosystem capable of innovation and application. Quanova’s specific function as a strategic integrator is designed to tailor Quandela’s photonic platform to the unique demands of Vietnamese industries and research institutions, ensuring relevance and maximizing impact.

Recent expansion into South Korea, with the establishment of a Quandela Hub at KAIST, demonstrates a broader strategy of establishing regional centers for quantum expertise and collaboration, the firm reports. The formalization of this agreement during the Vietnam-France Leaders Forum, with both Presidents in attendance, underscores the Vietnamese government’s deliberate prioritization of quantum computing as a key area for national development.

“Our ambition is to help turn this momentum into lasting capabilities: trained talent, access to photonic quantum computing and concrete projects for universities,” stated a Quandela representative, highlighting the focus on building local expertise. Quanova will concentrate on training its teams, developing joint solutions, and identifying practical applications in collaboration with Vietnamese academic and commercial entities, ensuring the technology is not merely adopted, but actively utilized and advanced within the country.

Now he turns his attention to write about his passion, the quantum realm. He loves all things Quantum Physics especially. Rusty likes the more esoteric side of Quantum Computing and the Quantum world. Everything from Quantum Entanglement to Quantum Physics. Rusty thinks that we are in the 1950s quantum equivalent of the classical computing world. While other quantum journalists focus on IBM's latest chip or which startup just raised $50 million, Rusty's over here writing 3,000-word deep dives on whether quantum entanglement might explain why you sometimes think about someone right before they text you. (Spoiler: it doesn't, but the exploration is fascinating)
