New Finnish Quantum Institute launches InstituteQ to collaborate across research centres

Finland has announced that it has launched a new institute named InstituteQ with the aim of collaborating on all things Quantum. The The Finnish Quantum Institute will bring together expertise in research and development, education, and innovation to further Finlands quantum technology research. The University of Helsinki, Aalto University and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland are involved.

Our goals are threefold, firstly, to coordinate our national research efforts; secondly, to provide the best possible education, both in graduate and industrial programs; and thirdly, in driving innovation.

Professor Jukka Pekola, Aalto University

Finland is currently building a three-stage Quantum Computer. The project is a co-development project led by VTT and together with Finnish start-up IQM with the aim of showing Finnish expertise and provide an initial platform for innovation and commercial activities. The aims are not just technical are also directed at ensuring that there is an educated quantum workforce by enabling the creation of new professorships and national educational programs across partner institutions.
