Sparrow Quantum’s Founder Peter Lodahl is the New CEO

Sparrow Quantum founder Peter Lodahl has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, shifting the company’s focus to integrating its quantum photonic chip technology into larger computing systems. The move follows a leadership transition from Kurt Stokbro, an early investor who will remain Executive Advisor and board member.

“Peter now brings the scientific vision behind Sparrow and a deep understanding of the technical milestones that will shape its next phase,” said Niels Christian Nielsen, Chair of the Board. Having delivered its initial chip technology, Sparrow Quantum will now concentrate on controlling and connecting reliable quantum light for fault-tolerant quantum computing architectures.

Lodahl Appointed CEO, Completing Leadership Transition

The leadership structure at Sparrow Quantum solidified in recent weeks with the appointment of founder Peter Lodahl as Chief Executive Officer, following a planned transition from early investor Kurt Stokbro. Stokbro, who initially guided the company’s growth, will continue to influence strategy as Executive Advisor and remain a member of the board, ensuring continuity during the change.

The appointment completes a strengthening of the leadership team that began in May, when Anne-Marie Engtoft Meldgaard joined as Chief Commercial Officer. Sparrow Quantum’s focus is now shifting from the development of its core quantum photonic chip technology to the more detailed task of integrating that technology into functional computing systems.

He helped build the organisation, secure its financial foundation and bring its first products to customers. Lodahl’s appointment is intended to build on this foundation, using his deep understanding of the technical challenges ahead and his established scientific vision for the company’s future. Lodahl outlined the company’s immediate goals, emphasizing the need to move beyond individual components to complete, fault-tolerant quantum architectures.

“We founded Sparrow to tackle one of the fundamental challenges in photonic quantum computing: producing high-quality quantum light reliably and on demand,” he said. “With our technology now in customers’ hands, our next task is to bring these capabilities into architectures designed for fault-tolerant quantum computing.”

That means addressing how photons are generated, controlled and connected without an explosion in hardware requirements. This transition signifies a move from proving the feasibility of the chip to scaling and connecting it within larger, more complex systems. The strengthening of Sparrow Quantum’s leadership extends beyond the CEO appointment. Alongside Meldgaard, Andreas Olesen now serves as Vice President of Finance, and Larissa Vertchenko has been promoted to Chief Technology & Operations Officer.

This expanded executive team is designed to combine scientific expertise with robust commercial, operational and financial capabilities, positioning the company for sustained growth and market penetration. PensionDanmark, an early investor, expressed confidence in the new leadership structure, noting Sparrow Quantum’s potential to translate Danish research into globally relevant industrial applications. “We are pleased to see Peter Lodahl take on the leadership role; his scientific insight and long-term vision will be invaluable on the exciting road ahead.” Rune Gade Holm, Head of Private Markets at PensionDanmark and Sparrow Quantum Board Member, expressed this sentiment.

The formation of the Scientific Advisory Board itself demonstrates a commitment to external guidance as Sparrow Quantum navigates the complexities of building scalable photonic architectures for future quantum computing systems and quantum interconnects, the company says. Stokbro expressed pride in the company’s accomplishments to date, emphasizing the successful transition to a commercially viable entity.

“Peter has shaped Sparrow’s technology and ambition from the beginning, and I am pleased to hand over to him as the company takes its next steps. I look forward to supporting him and the team as Executive Advisor and member of the Board.” This handover signifies not an end to Stokbro’s involvement, but a shift in focus towards long-term strategic guidance, ensuring a smooth continuation of Sparrow Quantum’s trajectory.

Sparrow Quantum is an example of how Danish research can grow into a company with global relevance. PensionDanmark invested because we believe the company will make photonic quantum technology accessible for industrial applications.
