The work details an interactive music system where these agents exchange states encoded with Single Qubit Probability Amplitude Modulation (SQPAM) and structured through Quantum Phase Estimation (QPE), effectively translating musical behaviors into quantum information. Rather than eliminate imperfections, the system intentionally embraces them, reframing them as musically expressive distortions in state transfer. The researchers explain this approach supports “ambiguous, transformative interactions reminiscent of free Jazz improvisation,” positioning teleportation as a potential interaction mechanism for future quantum computer music ensembles.
This setup allows for directed communication, where agents exchange musical information encoded in quantum states. The system’s design deliberately moves beyond simply minimizing errors; instead, it embraces imperfections in state transfer, which contribute to musical expressiveness. This approach is particularly relevant given the current limitations of Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum (NISQ) technology, turning constraints into artistic opportunities. Analyses focused on melodic correlation, pitch-set distance, and state fidelity revealed a spectrum between imitation and divergence in agent responses, demonstrating a tunable interpretation method to assess how agents reinterpret teleported states.
The convergence of quantum computing and musical performance is yielding novel interactive systems, and Eduardo Reck Miranda and Scott Yeiichi Oshiro now leverage quantum teleportation to facilitate communication between multiple agents within a single quantum circuit.
