QuSecure’s QuProtect R3 achieved Technical Readiness Level 7 at the U.S, the company says. Army’s Project Convergence Capstone 6, demonstrating the product is ready for fielding with the Department of Defense, a significant step beyond lab testing.
The live experiment at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin involved thousands of soldiers testing future warfighting concepts with QuSecure’s quantum-resistant communications providing cryptographic agility and discovery. Brian Cunningham, EVP of Growth and Strategy at QuSecure, said this TRL-7 designation at Project Convergence Capstone 6 indicates the Army is proactively addressing the 2030-2031 deadline mandated by Executive Order 14412 for federal agencies to migrate to post-quantum cryptography.

This achievement surpasses standard laboratory testing, signifying a mature product ready for real-world application and marking a critical step forward in delivering post-quantum cryptography to the field. The rigorous testing environment of Project Convergence Capstone 6 provided the necessary conditions to validate QuProtect R3’s performance under operational stress.
The successful operation of QuProtect R3 directly addresses the deadlines set forth in Executive Order 14412, signed June 22, which mandates federal agencies migrate to post-quantum cryptography by 2030-2031. This timeline creates an urgent need for solutions like QuProtect R3, and the TRL-7 designation confirms the Army possesses a deployable platform years ahead of schedule.
QuSecure’s development from a Small Business Innovation Research program highlights the impact of collaborative development with Army C5ISR, which has been instrumental in refining the product for tactical networks, according to the company. Joey Lupo, Product Manager at QuSecure, explained that participation in Project Convergence Capstone 6 concludes almost two years of close, iterative development work with C5ISR to adapt the product and add new capabilities for tactical networks.
Beyond quantum resistance, the platform demonstrably improves network automation, cryptographic agility, and zero trust capabilities, enhancing resilience against contemporary and future cyber threats. The Post-Quantum Cryptography Coalition recently published a Solution Analysis Guide identifying a key evaluation area, and QuProtect R3 now holds the highest score in that category. This success positions QuSecure to assist other Department of Defense components and federal agencies in their TLS modernization, PQC migration, and cryptographic inventory efforts, offering a readily available solution for both enterprise software and tactical mission systems.
