Maryland Launches Quantum Computing Certificate Program

The University of Maryland will offer a new graduate certificate program in quantum computing starting in Spring 2023. The 12-credit program, which can be completed in less than a year, will be offered through the Science Academy in the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences and will provide working professionals with training in quantum computing.

The program will cover machine learning, optimization, encryption, information theory, and communication topics. It will prepare students to implement and execute applications on quantum computers and understand how different physical implementations of quantum computers affect their capabilities and performance. The program will be taught by university faculty and experts in the field and does not require prior knowledge of quantum physics or quantum computing.

The program will feature in-person instruction at the UMD campus, with classes taught by university faculty and experts in the field. No prior knowledge in quantum physics or quantum computing is necessary.
