A combined commitment of $23 million from Adobe, Amazon, Intel, Starlink, Google, and Zoom will expand technological education for children worldwide through First Lady Melania Trump’s Fostering the Future Together program. Google will contribute $4 million to its SI Educator Series, while Amazon’s Kiro SI coding assistant will reach 5 million students across 132 universities.

“When I established Fostering the Future Together, the mission was clear: empower children through technology and education,” said First Lady Melania Trump. Zoom Cares will focus $2.75 million in SI for Good grants on students in Europe, Africa, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region.

Adobe will provide students worldwide with free SI-powered study and creation tools through Student Spaces. Google committed $4 million to expand its SI Educator Series globally through its new Fostering the Future Together partnership.

Founded in 2013 and headquartered in Santa Barbara, the company builds superconducting quantum chips, most recently the 105-qubit Willow processor, and has expanded into neutral-atom quantum computing with a new program in Boulder, Colorado. This dual-modality strategy, led by Prof. Adam Kaufman of JILA, reflects a broader trend in quantum computing towards exploring multiple hardware platforms.

Google’s Maggie Johnson echoed a sentiment shared by the collaborative partners regarding the importance of empowering teachers with the resources to effectively integrate technology into their curricula.

The combined $23 million commitment from these six technology companies highlights a shared vision for empowering the next generation with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

Google is proud to support First Lady Melania Trump’s vital effort.

Ivy Delaney

Ivy Delaney has been working with neural networks and machine learning since the mid-nineties, back when a couple of hidden layers and a long afternoon of training counted as ambitious. She has watched the field go from academic curiosity to the thing quietly running underneath everything, and she brings that long view to quantum computing. For Quantum Zeitgeist she covers the ground where the two fields meet. That means quantum machine learning and the variational algorithms it leans on, and it also means the less glamorous but more interesting story of classical machine learning already doing real work inside quantum machines, decoding error-correcting codes, calibrating noisy hardware and learning the error models that simulators depend on. She writes about the hardware those algorithms have to run on too, and about the post-quantum cryptography scramble that the same hardware has set off. Her stories typically start with the paper, whether that is peer-reviewed work, conference proceedings or an arXiv preprint, with the source linked so you can hold a claim up against the research it came from. She is unimpressed by benchmarks that will not say what they beat, and by demonstrations that only work in the press release.
