Crypto4A'S $7.5M Quantum-Safe Initiative To Boost Ontario'S Manufacturing, Create 50 Jobs

Canadian company Crypto4A Technologies has announced a $7.5 million Quantum-Safe Secure Manufacturing Initiative, with a $3.75 million repayable contribution from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. The initiative aims to accelerate the development of Crypto4A’s quantum-ready hardware security products, QxHSM™ and QxEDGE™, and create over 50 new jobs. The funding is part of the Regional Quantum Initiative, designed to boost the quantum sector and product development. The initiative is expected to make Ontario and Canada leaders in the Smart Manufacturing Industry 4.0 sector by enabling quantum-safe manufacturing processes.

Quantum-Safe Secure Manufacturing Initiative: A Collaborative Effort

Crypto4A Technologies Inc., a Canadian cybersecurity technology company, has announced a $7.5-million Quantum-Safe Secure Manufacturing Initiative. This initiative is supported by a $3.75-million repayable contribution from the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). The initiative aims to address evolving fundamental security threats and support Ontario’s manufacturing sector by creating over 50 new jobs.

Crypto4A’s quantum-ready hardware security products, QxHSM™ and QxEDGE™, are designed, developed, and manufactured in Ontario. The funding will accelerate the company’s ability to enhance these products and contribute to the development of the quantum sector. Southern Ontario, with its world-leading research centres and high-potential quantum companies, is well-positioned for quantum breakthroughs.

The Regional Quantum Initiative: Boosting Quantum Sector Development

The funding for Crypto4A’s initiative comes through the Regional Quantum Initiative, which aims to accelerate the development of the quantum sector and drive product development in this world-class quantum ecosystem. The government’s support for businesses in this sector is intended to bring incredible technologies to market faster, advancing Canada’s role as a world leader in quantum technologies.

The Quantum-Safe Secure Manufacturing Initiative is designed to make Ontario and Canada world leaders in the Smart Manufacturing Industry 4.0 sector by enabling quantum-safe manufacturing processes. Advanced manufacturing in Canada is estimated to contribute $13.5 billion to the national GDP and is expected to provide 13,000 jobs to Canadians in the coming years.

Quantum-Safe Manufacturing: Securing the Future of IoT

The Internet is expected to experience a 500 percent growth in interconnected devices over the next five years, largely fueled by the massive deployment of 5G-enabled Internet of Things (IoT) devices. These devices, required to accommodate smart cities, smart manufacturing, smart grid, and other AI concepts, need to be protected against both current cyber-attacks and future quantum-enabled attacks.

The anticipated lifecycle of these devices can be anywhere from 5 to 25 years or more. Quantum computing advances are expected to allow the breaking of existing classical cryptographic algorithms within the lifespan of many devices. Therefore, it is crucial that these devices designed to operate for multiple tens-of-years be secured at manufacturing time with quantum-safe cryptographic identities.

Crypto4A’s Quantum-Safe Products: QxHSM and QxEDGE

Crypto4A’s QxHSM™ is a quantum-safe crypto-agile network-attached Hardware Security Module (HSM) in a modular blade form factor. It provides the cryptographic agility, mobility, and scalability needed to keep up with rapid advances in technology. It ensures true ownership of cryptographic assets without vendor lock-in and supports flexible cloud-scale deployment architectures while adapting to changing markets, standards, and requirements.

QxEDGE™, on the other hand, is a fully integrated and hyper-converged Hardware Security Platform (HSP) that combines a quantum-safe crypto-agile HSM, with multiple general-purpose and confidential compute processing engines. It is fully programmable and extensible to enable organizations to deliver customized solutions to meet their unique needs.

FedDev Ontario: Supporting Economic Growth and Innovation
