Infleqtion’s co-founder recognized for quantum compilation work

Infleqtion co-founder Pranav Gokhale will receive the 2026 IEEE Quantum Technical Community Distinguished Early Career Award, recognizing his work bridging the gap between quantum hardware and software. The award acknowledges Gokhale’s prolific research, which includes more than a dozen publications, multiple patents, and three best paper awards focused on optimizing practical quantum systems. This recognition highlights Gokhale’s leadership as Infleqtion advances neutral-atom quantum computing, demonstrated by its 1,600-qubit lattice and recent partnerships applying the technology to areas like grid resilience and space-based quantum networks.

Infleqtion’s Pranav Gokhale Receives IEEE Quantum Early Career Award

Gokhale previously worked at tech before its acquisition by Infleqtion in 2022. This emphasis on co-design, integrating hardware, error correction, and application development, has accelerated progress within the company’s quantum computing platform, Infleqtion says. Gokhale’s career trajectory, from research at institutions like the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the University of Chicago to founding Super. tech and now serving as Infleqtion’s Chief Technology Officer, reflects a consistent dedication to practical quantum systems.

He earned a Ph. D. in computer science from the University of Chicago, building on a foundation established with bachelor’s degrees in computer science and physics from Princeton University. This academic background informs his approach to tackling challenges in quantum circuit optimization, benchmarking, and error mitigation, areas where his research has yielded more than a dozen publications and multiple patents. Infleqtion’s Superstaq software, now central to the company’s offerings, embodies this integrated approach.

The system employs cross-layer optimization techniques to enhance quantum program performance on actual hardware, supporting diverse programming frameworks and backends. This capability is particularly significant given Infleqtion’s development of a 1,600-qubit neutral-atom quantum computer with 99.73% gate fidelity, a demonstration of the company’s commitment to scalable and reliable quantum technology, according to the company.

The company, publicly listed on the NYSE as INFQ with a headcount of approximately 250 people, has secured over $550 million in funding, including a recent $3 million grant from the Department of Energy for projects in atomic quantum sensing and AI-optimized circuit design.

Dr. Mark Saffman, Chief Scientist for Quantum Information at Infleqtion, noted, “What stands out about Pranav is his ability to understand the full quantum computing stack and identify where advances in one layer can unlock progress in another.” This comprehensive understanding, combined with a level of technical curiosity and ambition, has driven Infleqtion’s accelerated progress, resulting in both peer-reviewed publications and tangible hardware and software products.

Fred Chong, Chief Scientist for Quantum Software at Infleqtion, further elaborated, “Pranav’s combination of technical innovation and leadership can be seen throughout Infleqtion – especially the Superstaq compiler; the co-design of hardware, quantum error correction, and applications; and the development of quantum-inspired contextual machine learning.” Margaret Martonosi, a University Professor at Princeton University, highlighted the long-term impact of Gokhale’s contributions, stating that this sustained commitment to advancing the field, from foundational research to commercialization, underscores the significance of the IEEE’s recognition of Gokhale’s early career achievements and positions him as a key figure in the ongoing development of practical quantum computing solutions.

Quantum computing will reach its full potential when we stop treating hardware and software as separate disciplines and instead design them together.
