Fujitsu’s Simulator Challenge Tests Quantum Apps on 40-Qubit System

Fujitsu Limited is soliciting applications from industry and academic members to participate in the $100,000 Quantum Simulator Challenge 2025-26. The challenge will leverage Fujitsu’s 40-qubit CPU-based state vector quantum simulator system, comprised of 1024 FX700 nodes utilizing A64FX processors and enhanced with the Qulacs software developed by Osaka University and QunaSys Corporation. Participants will test the simulator on novel problems and applications, utilizing a software development kit partially compatible with Qiskit, as well as new features including a Tensor Network-based Quantum Simulator and the proprietary Fujitsu Quantum Application Research Package (Fujitsu QARP). This initiative aims to explore quantum use cases and obtain feedback on performance and scalability.

Fujitsu Quantum Simulator Challenge Overview

Fujitsu is hosting a $100,000 Quantum Simulator Challenge from January to March 2026, inviting industry and academic applicants to test their quantum simulator on novel problems. The challenge aims to apply the simulator to customer pain points, explore quantum use cases, and obtain feedback on performance and scalability. Prize money will be awarded: $50,000 for First Prize, $30,000 for Second, and $20,000 for Third. Applications, submitted by January 30, 2026 to fra_quantum@fujitsu.com, will be judged on problem innovation, applicability, and customer impact.

Fujitsu’s quantum simulator is a 40-qubit, CPU-based state vector system comprised of 1024 FX700 nodes utilizing A64FX processors. It leverages “Qulacs,” a fast quantum simulator software, enhanced for parallel and distributed execution with MPI and SVE optimization. Participants will be required to use the “Fujitsu Quantum Application Research Package” (Fujitsu QARP) for their project, with evaluation criteria including the quality of algorithms, qubit utilization, and valuable feedback on QARP usability.

Evaluation of challenge projects will focus on three key areas: project uniqueness, business applicability, and algorithms quality. Scoring will prioritize solutions to complex problems utilizing a high number of qubits. Participants will benefit from access to a software development kit compatible with Qiskit, technical webinars, and a community space on Slack for knowledge sharing with Fujitsu’s research team. Interested applicants should download the application form and submit it to fra_quantum@fujitsu.com.

Fujitsu Quantum Technologies and Features

Fujitsu has developed a 40-qubit CPU-based state vector quantum simulator system utilizing 1024 FX700 nodes with A64FX processors. This simulator leverages “Qulacs,” a fast quantum simulator software from Osaka University and QunaSys Corporation, enhanced for parallel and distributed execution using MPI technology and SVE operation. Fujitsu is offering access to this technology through the $100,000 Quantum Simulator Challenge 2025-26, aiming to test the simulator on novel problems and applications with industry and academic participants.

To further enhance development capabilities, Fujitsu provides a software development kit (SDK) partially compatible with Qiskit. Participants in the challenge will also have access to new features including a ‘Tensor Network-based Quantum Simulator’ for circuits with 40+ qubits and low circuit depth. The “Fujitsu Quantum Application Research Package” (Fujitsu QARP) is a proprietary library intended to streamline quantum application development, and its use is required for participation in the challenge.

The Quantum Simulator Challenge prioritizes project evaluation based on uniqueness, business applicability, and algorithm quality. Scoring will consider the number of qubits used, with preference given to higher utilization, as well as effective use of Fujitsu QARP and participant feedback. Fujitsu plans to host technical webinars and a Slack community space to support participants and facilitate knowledge sharing throughout the challenge, running from January to March 2026.

As the Official Quantum Dog (or hound) by role is to dig out the latest nuggets of quantum goodness. There is so much happening right now in the field of technology, whether AI or the march of robots. But Quantum occupies a special space. Quite literally a special space. A Hilbert space infact, haha! Here I try to provide some of the news that might be considered breaking news in the Quantum Computing space.
