€2.5 million in Horizon Europe funding will accelerate the development of NVision Quantum Technologies’ POLARIS platform and establish a new metabolic imaging research center at Yonsei University in South Korea. The three-year RESQ project aims to improve image resolution and sensitivity for detecting brain metastases, a challenge impacting roughly one in five cancer patients. This expansion marks NVision’s entry into the Asian market and builds upon existing POLARIS deployments in Europe and the United States. “Our POLARIS platform is already deployed at leading institutions across Europe and the United States, and we are continuing to expand both the capabilities and international reach of the platform,” said Dr. Sella Brosh, CEO and Co-Founder of NVision Quantum Technologies. The project anticipates POLARIS installation at Yonsei University in early 2027.

The consortium, comprised of NVision, Yonsei University, Ulm University, and Tesla Dynamic Coils, aims to develop a higher-resolution imaging workflow specifically for brain metastases research. Brain metastases affect approximately one in five cancer patients and present a difficult diagnostic challenge; standard MRI often fails to capture the crucial metabolic activity indicative of disease progression or treatment response. RESQ directly addresses this limitation by leveraging POLARIS to improve image resolution and sensitivity, enabling visualization of tumor metabolism at a finer scale. Yonsei University will biologically validate the workflow using preclinical models, while Ulm University focuses on quantum-optimized imaging methods to maximize signal efficiency. Tesla Dynamic Coils will engineer specialized MRI hardware to further enhance resolution.

While conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can identify tumor size and location, it struggles to reveal crucial metabolic activity, hindering effective treatment monitoring. Researchers are now focused on hyperpolarized MRI, a technique visualizing tumor metabolism in real-time, but its application to the typically small and subtly changing metastases requires substantial improvements in image resolution and sensitivity. A new €2.5 million investment will support the consortium, including Ulm University and Tesla Dynamic Coils, in doubling the spatial resolution of hyperpolarized MRI while maximizing signal quality. “RESQ advances POLARIS for one of the most demanding applications in medical imaging and creates the foundation for our long-term presence in South Korea,” added Dr. Brosh. This collaborative effort seeks to visualize tumor metabolism with increased detail, potentially revolutionizing the detection and monitoring of brain metastases.
