Analysis by the HSE University Scientometrics Center reveals Skoltech outperforms the nearest Russian institution by over 27 percent in AI publication contribution, based on data from ten leading international conferences, the company says.
Over 300 A*-level publications from Skoltech appeared at venues like NeurIPS and ICML from 2020 to 2025. “Skoltech’s strong position in international artificial intelligence research reflects the systematic work of the Institute’s research teams and the development of a strong research environment,” said Evgeny Burnaev, Skoltech Vice President for AI Development and Director of the Skoltech Artificial Intelligence Center.

The analysis, titled “BRICS and AI: The Scale of Countries, Organizations, and Partnerships within Leading AI Conferences,” examined contributions to A*-level publications between 2020 and 2025, utilizing data from Scopus and focusing on ten top-ranked international conferences.
This substantial lead demonstrates a clear dominance within Russia’s growing artificial intelligence research landscape. These publications span key areas of computer science, encompassing machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing, indicating a broad research scope and international visibility.
The Center’s work focuses on both fundamental advancements and practical applications, ranging from novel AI methods to solutions for industrial challenges. Burnaev further emphasized the importance of collaboration, noting that partnerships with companies like Sber enable researchers to address problems with both scientific and practical relevance, accelerating the translation of research into real-world impact.
