Riverlane Funds Quantum Features for Open-Source Deltakit Toolkit

Developers earned over $18,000 in bounties at Unitary Foundation’s June unitaryHACK26, completing more than 165 tasks and demonstrating strong interest in building quantum computing infrastructure. Building on this momentum, Riverlane and the Unitary Foundation have launched the Deltakit Community Fund to support the sustained development of open-source quantum error correction tools. The new initiative will award between $2,000 and $4,000 for features focused on areas like error budgeting and threshold computation within Riverlane’s Deltakit toolkit. “unitaryHACK showed us there’s real appetite among developers to work on the foundational infrastructure quantum computing needs,” says Marco Ghibaudi, VP Engineering at Riverlane, adding that the fund will help “build both the toolkit and the community around it.” Riverlane will oversee technical aspects and integration of contributions, ensuring a structured approach to expanding the open-source package.

The success of June’s unitaryHACK26, where over 1,000 developers closed 165 bounties and earned nearly $18,000, demonstrated substantial developer interest in quantum computing infrastructure. This momentum is now being channeled into a sustained development effort with the launch of the Deltakit Community Fund. This structured approach ensures that external contributions are effectively incorporated into the core software. Ben Castanon, CEO at Unitary Foundation, emphasized the importance of open-source collaboration, stating that quantum’s open source community has already established itself as a foundational pillar, ensuring the technology can realize its full potential. The initial pilot phase of the Deltakit Community Fund launches with two active developer projects planned for the latter half of 2026, with applications open globally, excluding individuals based in countries subject to US export controls or financial sanctions; the advisory committee will begin reviewing applications on August 17th.

Riverlane will provide technical oversight, defining project criteria and reviewing milestone completions to facilitate seamless adoption of new features into the main Deltakit package. This fund helps turn that momentum into something more lasting.
