NEAR adds quantum-safe asset, QTC, to its platform

Robinhood Chain now allows users to swap assets against over 180 offerings across 30 chains directly within the NEAR ecosystem, eliminating the need for separate bridging or app downloads, the company says. This integration, revealed at TOKEN2049 Singapore, accompanies the launch of Quantus Network’s asset, QTC, on near.com and NEAR Intents. NEAR and Quantus also co-hosted Quantum & Privacy Day on October 8, bringing together industry leaders to address the challenges of a future shift in cryptography.

QTC and Robinhood Chain Launch on NEAR Ecosystem

Quantus Network’s asset, QTC, became operational on near.com and through NEAR Intents, representing a step toward bolstering cryptocurrency infrastructure against future quantum computing threats. The launch addresses a growing concern within the blockchain space: the potential for sufficiently powerful quantum computers to break existing cryptographic algorithms. This implementation allows for confidential trading across more than 30 different blockchain networks, with direct deposit and withdrawal functionality to and from the Quantus network.

Robinhood Chain’s arrival on near.com expands the NEAR ecosystem’s interoperability, enabling users to directly exchange assets from the Robinhood platform against over 180 offerings spanning 30 separate blockchains, according to the company. This eliminates the need for users to manually bridge assets between chains or download additional applications, streamlining the process of decentralized finance. Robinhood Chain is also accessible through NEAR Intents, extending this simplified access to wallets and applications already integrated with the NEAR Intents framework.

The integration allows for smooth deposit, withdrawal and payment functionality to and from the Robinhood Chain, reducing friction for users accustomed to traditional brokerage services. The launches occurred alongside a co-hosted event, Quantum & Privacy Day, on October 8, where NEAR partnered with Quantus to facilitate industry-wide discussion on security. Speakers at the event, including Balaji Srinivasan, Zooko Wilcox and Haseeb Qureshi, explored the practical requirements for transitioning to quantum-resistant cryptography.

Experts at the event addressed key questions regarding signature security, migration processes, privacy concerns and potential vulnerabilities when cryptography shifts. NEAR’s long-standing focus on quantum resistance, dating back to 2018, is evidenced by its existing support for the ML-DSA signature scheme on its mainnet, requiring no asset migration for users. Recent analysis further highlights NEAR’s growing momentum in the agent economy.

Bitwise described NEAR Protocol as “a settlement engine fast and cheap enough for AI-scale commerce,” while Delphi Digital reported a record fee month for NEAR Intents. Grayscale identified NEAR as “a platform for agentic commerce,” and the Bitwise NEAR ETF (NRR) currently ranks among the top ten US ETFs launched in September by assets under management. Illia Polosukhin, NEAR co-founder, described NEAR Intents as “a market of markets” and outlined a vision for onchain asset markets during TOKEN2049 Singapore.

NEAR Protocol as “a settlement engine fast and cheap enough for AI-scale commerce” and cited more than $30 billion in cumulative NEAR Intents volume.
