Kookmin University will explore combining high-performance computing with quantum processing units through a new partnership with Quandela, a European leader in photonic quantum computing. The collaboration, formalized through Quandela’s Quantum University Program, builds on Kookmin University’s Quantum Campus initiative launched in 2025, aiming to advance both research and quantum talent development, the company says.
“Through the Quantum University Program, we want to give students and researchers practical access to photonic quantum computing and create a strong foundation for joint work,” said Sam Yoosuk Kim, Quandela’s General Manager for South Korea. The agreement signed by leaders from both organizations will expand access to Quandela’s platforms and cloud services for teaching, experimentation, and research.
Quandela Hub and Kookmin University Expand Photonic Quantum Computing Access
Kookmin University will explore how Quandela Hub, including Quandela Cloud, can support teaching, experimentation and academic research. This expansion builds on the university’s Quantum Campus initiative, launched in July 2025, which aims to connect quantum research with practical applications in fields like information security and artificial intelligence. The partnership formalizes a framework for joint academic and industry-academia projects, focusing on areas beyond basic quantum research.

The collaboration will specifically investigate hybrid computing approaches, combining conventional high-performance computing (HPC) with quantum processing units (QPUs). Professor Park Jun Seok of Kookmin University’s Department of Electronic Engineering will lead efforts in quantum communications and education, aligning with his communications initiative. Beyond research, the agreement includes plans for joint seminars, workshops and international academic exchanges to cultivate quantum talent.
Quandela’s Quantum University Program facilitates this by offering access to learning resources and cloud-based quantum processors, allowing users to move from foundational training to practical experimentation. Quandela describes itself as a company committed to making quantum computing accessible to address complex industrial and societal challenges, and this partnership is a step towards that goal.
Kookmin University has set a clear ambition to integrate quantum technologies into its teaching and research environment. Through the Quantum University Program, we want to give students and researchers practical access to photonic quantum computing and create a strong foundation for joint work in quantum communications, quantum machine learning and hybrid computing.
