Research tech body and HellasQCI join national quantum standards committee

The Hellenic Organization for Standardization established the ELOT/TE 111 Technical Committee on “Quantum Technologies” by decision of the Chief Executive Officer of NQIS, bringing together representatives from public administration, academia and research, as well as the business community. The committee’s membership explicitly includes representatives from the Ministry of National Defence and the National Cybersecurity Authority, signaling a focus extending beyond purely academic or commercial applications of quantum technologies.

Ilias Papastamatiou, Senior Project Manager at GRNET and HellasQCI Project Coordinator, is GRNET’s representative on the committee, contributing to a collaborative framework encompassing public authorities, research institutions and the business community, the company says. This participation by HellasQCI strengthens its role in the national conversation surrounding quantum technology development.

ELOT/TE 111 Committee Establishes National Quantum Technologies Framework

This committee, established by decision of the Chief Executive Officer of the National Quality Infrastructure System, unites representatives from diverse sectors including government, academia and industry to support collaboration in quantum technology. Membership extends to institutions such as the National Technical University of Athens, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises, ensuring broad stakeholder input. Dr. Omiros Papadopoulos, a Researcher at the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos”, is the Committee’s Technical Officer, providing specialized expertise.

Alexandros Psyrris, Head of the ELOT Division of Electrotechnical Standardisation, Information Technology and Communications, oversees the committee’s operations, supported by the ELOT Division itself. According to the source material, “The establishment of the Committee and the participation of stakeholders from the public, academic, research and business sectors provided a framework for cooperation in the field of quantum technologies,” highlighting the initiative’s intent to build a cohesive national strategy. This collaborative framework aims to strengthen Greece’s position in the rapidly evolving field of quantum technologies.

Rusty is a quantum science nerd. He's been into academic science all his life, but spent his formative years doing less academic things. Now he turns his attention to write about his passion, the quantum realm. He loves all things Quantum Physics especially. Rusty likes the more esoteric side of Quantum Computing and the Quantum world. Everything from Quantum Entanglement to Quantum Physics. Rusty thinks that we are in the 1950s quantum equivalent of the classical computing world. While other quantum journalists focus on IBM's latest chip or which startup just raised $50 million, Rusty's over here writing 3,000-word deep dives on whether quantum entanglement might explain why you sometimes think about someone right before they text you. (Spoiler: it doesn't, but the exploration is fascinating)
