A new collection of mathematical results generated by an internal AI model is now available for public scrutiny on GitHub. Alongside the findings, the team is releasing 10 summaries detailing the model’s reasoning for each solution, offering a detailed look into the AI’s problem-solving process.
The average result used the equivalent compute of roughly three hours of ChatGPT Pro thinking. “We want this progress to push the frontier of human knowledge and enable further progress in mathematics,” the team states, and formalizations of the proofs in the Lean programming language are included to allow computer-checked validation.
Formalizations of mathematical proofs in Lean, a programming language that allows mathematical proofs to be checked by a computer, are now publicly available within a newly released GitHub repository. This approach enables independent confirmation of the AI’s logic, moving beyond simply assessing the correctness of the final answer to verifying the steps taken to reach it.
The repository’s inclusion of these formalizations reflects a commitment to transparency and rigorous validation of AI-driven mathematical discovery. These summaries are intended to aid human mathematicians in understanding and potentially building upon the AI’s work, rather than simply accepting the answers as definitive.
The decision to publish these results on GitHub follows consultations with the independent Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence for Advanced Study, demonstrating a proactive effort to establish best practices for sharing AI-generated mathematical findings. The team intends to continually improve the quality of future releases through enhanced citations, mathematical exposition and result presentation, responding to community feedback and evolving standards for scientific disclosure.
