Hawthorn Photonics is streamlining its brand portfolio by rebranding AdvR products as Covesion, establishing the latter as its dedicated components brand. The move accompanies a full corporate identity overhaul, with AdvR, Inc. becoming Hawthorn Photonics (US), Inc. and similar changes planned for its UK and Spanish entities. Radiantis will continue as the group’s systems brand for broadly tunable and frequency locked laser systems.
AdvR Rebranding Establishes Covesion as Components Brand
Covesion’s specialization in magnesium oxide-doped lithium niobate (MgO:LN) crystals and locked laser systems positions it as a key supplier for rapidly developing fields like quantum light source development and cold-atom sensor technology. Founded in 2007 and headquartered in Southampton, United Kingdom, Covesion previously operated as a distinct entity but now fully integrates as the components division of the larger photonics group, benefiting from shared resources and a streamlined operational structure.
This move follows a period of growth for Covesion, including its support of sea trials for the HARLEQUIN quantum-hybrid inertial navigation system in November 2025, utilizing its LL2-Rb locked laser system aboard the Trinity House vessel THV Galatea.
According to Mike Day, President of Hawthorn Photonics, transitioning AdvR to the Covesion brand creates a clearer identity for its components offering while maintaining the same products, people, and technical expertise customers know and trust. UKRI records demonstrate Covesion’s long-standing involvement in quantum projects, including the BLINQ project focused on blue laser integration with networked quantum memories and the QWISPS single-photon source waveguide projects spanning 2015 to 2017, the company says.
The company’s expertise in manufacturing MgO:PPLN devices for efficient non-linear wavelength conversion, covering wavelengths from 390nm to 6μm, underpins its ability to serve diverse sectors including medical, aerospace, and scientific research, ensuring continued support for existing customers and expansion into new markets.
