Fujitsu, Monash and CSIRO to Advance 3 Quantum Computing Fields

Researchers from Monash University and CSIRO will directly access Fujitsu’s quantum systems and simulators located in Japan, a collaboration formalized through a new Memorandum of Understanding. This partnership aims to bolster Australia’s quantum capabilities and workforce, while also supporting a recently signed agreement between Australia and Japan on quantum science and innovation.

“By bringing together Fujitsu’s quantum technologies, Monash University’s research excellence and CSIRO’s applied science expertise, we’re creating new opportunities to accelerate innovation,” said Peter Grassi, Chief Executive Officer of Fujitsu in Oceania. The organizations also plan to establish a shared quantum research and education facility at Monash University’s Faculty of Information Technology.

Research organizations are increasingly accessing commercial quantum systems to accelerate development beyond theoretical proofs. Fujitsu’s quantum resources in Japan will be directly available to Monash University and CSIRO researchers, establishing a transnational pipeline for quantum innovation and training. This access extends beyond hardware to include Fujitsu’s quantum simulators, allowing for broader experimentation and algorithm development.

The partnership intends to focus on quantum optimisation, machine learning, and advanced simulation technologies applicable to real-world problems, moving beyond fundamental research. Monash is positioning itself as a key player in Australia’s growing quantum ecosystem, prioritizing the translation of research into practical applications.
