United Kingdom-based artificial intelligence startups have secured £8.2 billion in venture capital funding during the first half of this year, indicating rapid growth and strong investor confidence in the nation’s tech sector. This capital positions the UK as a leading force in the European technology landscape, attracting nearly half, 49 percent, of all European technology investment so far this year. New data from Omdia forecasts an 8.2 percent increase in IT spending across Europe this year, reaching a total of $1.3 trillion, the fastest pace since 2017. Carolyn Dawson OBE, CEO of Founders Forum Group and Lead for London Tech Week, stated that this year’s London Tech Week is particularly important, with a focus on how AI is transforming industries, building resilience through tech sovereignty, and exploring deep tech during what she described as Europe’s decisive decade.
UK Tech Sector Valued at £1.2 Trillion with Rising Venture Capital
The United Kingdom’s technology sector has reached a valuation of £1.2 trillion, according to a new report by Tech Nation released during London Tech Week, signaling sustained growth and investor confidence in the nation’s digital economy. This expansion is fueled by a surge in venture capital, with UK artificial intelligence startups securing over £8.2 billion in venture capital in the first half of the year. This investment represents nearly half of all European technology investment received during the same period, solidifying the UK’s position as a key player in Europe. Omdia also forecasts $1.3 trillion in spending, marking the fastest rate of growth observed since 2017 and suggesting broader technological investment beyond just the AI sector. Nebius is committing approximately £1.7 billion to build AI capacity within the UK, including three new deployments of NVIDIA infrastructure scaling up to 65 MW of capacity by 2026.
£400 Million AI Compute Strategy & AMD’s £2 Billion UK Investment
Substantial investments in infrastructure are solidifying the United Kingdom’s position as a European technology hub, to the surge in venture capital funding for UK-based artificial intelligence companies. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer unveiled a £400 million national AI compute strategy, addressing the need for specialized computational power to drive advancements in the field. This initiative aims to procure dedicated AI compute capabilities, recognizing that access to processing resources is essential for innovation and development. Complementing this governmental commitment, AMD announced a £2 billion investment in the UK over the next five years, demonstrating confidence in the country’s technological potential. This funding from AMD will be strategically allocated to foster collaboration with leading academic institutions like Cambridge University and Imperial College, supporting high-performance compute infrastructure crucial for complex AI research and development, and providing direct financial support to promising UK startups. Nebius is further bolstering AI capacity with a commitment of approximately £1.7 billion, focusing on infrastructure expansion, customer acquisition, and cloud capabilities for both agentic and enterprise AI applications.
AI is moving at an incredible pace and the opportunities are huge for the UK and London. We have the investment, talent, and real-world application all in the capital, now it is upon us all to make sure the benefits of AI are felt right across the business community and wider economy.

London’s £12 Million SME AI Support Package & Tech Week Events
London’s artificial intelligence sector received a significant boost this week when the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, unveiled a £12 million initiative designed to accelerate AI adoption among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Developed by London & Partners, the program will allocate £4 million annually over the next three years, focusing on readiness assessments, expert mentoring, and customized guidance to help London’s smaller businesses integrate AI technologies. This targeted support arrives during a period of substantial investment in the UK’s tech landscape; data released by Tech Nation reveals that UK AI startups have raised more than £8.2 billion in venture capital in the first half of the year. Nebius is committing approximately £1.7 billion to build AI capacity in the UK, with more infrastructure, customers and cloud capabilities for agentic and enterprise AI, while AMD is also investing £2 billion over five years, partnering with Cambridge University and Imperial College for research and development, and direct investment into UK startups.
This is the most important London Tech Week we’ve ever hosted. Our focus for the week is clear: how AI is transforming industries and outcomes, building resilience through tech sovereignty, and the next frontier of deep tech, amid what is undoubtedly Europe’s decisive decade.
