QuTech Scholarships Fund Quantum MSc’s and Offer PhD Pathways

Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and QuTech are offering fully funded MSc scholarships to exceptional international students pursuing quantum technology, representing an investment of over €100,000 per recipient for tuition and living expenses over two years. Successful students achieving a 90% or higher grade on their MSc thesis will be offered a PhD position, subject to security regulations. Applications, which require a motivational letter and curriculum vitae, must be submitted by December 1. Selected candidates will be notified in early March. QuTech prioritises external applicants and actively encourages applications from underrepresented groups within the field.

The QuTech Scholarship provides full tuition fee waivers for eligible students pursuing a Master of Science programme at TU Delft, along with a contribution towards living expenses for a period of two years. Successful candidates achieving a final MSc thesis grade of 9 (or 90%) or higher will be considered for a PhD position at QuTech, subject to compliance with all relevant knowledge security regulations, including international sanctions legislation.

Eligibility requires fulfilment of both the scholarship criteria and TU Delft’s general admission requirements. The scholarship targets explicitly exceptional international students demonstrating a clear interest in quantum technology and who have been admitted to one of six MSc programmes: Applied Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, or Quantum Information Science & Technology, offered by the Faculty of Applied Sciences or the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science. Applicants must possess a cumulative grade point average of at least 80 per cent, obtained from a recognised international university.

QuTech prioritises applications from external candidates and actively encourages submissions from female students and individuals belonging to currently underrepresented groups within the fields of quantum sciences and engineering. Participation in courses offered by the QuTech Academy is strongly recommended for all scholarship recipients.

The application process necessitates the submission of a motivational letter, a detailed curriculum vitae, two letters of reference, and the official TU Delft Scholarship Application Form. Applications must be submitted through the standard five-step TU Delft application procedure, as detailed on the university’s website. The deadline for applications is 1 December.

Selected candidates will be invited to an interview. Notification regarding the outcome of applications will be communicated via email in early March, exclusively to those who have been awarded the scholarship. Students are able to undertake a Scholarship MSc project at QuTech during their second year of study.

Applicants requiring information on the TU Delft application process should contact the international office of their chosen faculty. Queries specifically relating to the QuTech Scholarship requirements and procedures can be  Applicants should note that receipt of the scholarship is contingent upon successful fulfilment of all TU Delft admission criteria. While the scholarship provides financial support for the MSc programme, admission to the programme itself remains a separate and essential requirement.

Successful candidates will be notified of their award via email in early March. No other form of notification will be provided, and applicants are advised to check their email accounts regularly during this period. The scholarship funds will be disbursed following confirmation of enrolment in the chosen MSc programme.

Application Procedure and Key Dates

Applicants should possess a cumulative grade point average of at least 80 per cent, earned at a recognised international university, to be considered for this quantum technology scholarship. The selection process will prioritise external applicants, with QuTech actively encouraging applications from female students and members of underrepresented groups within the quantum sciences and engineering disciplines. Receipt of the scholarship is conditional upon fulfilling all TU Delft admission criteria; acceptance into the chosen MSc programme is a prerequisite. Successful candidates will be notified of their award via email in early March. During their second year of study, scholarship recipients may undertake a Scholarship MSc project at QuTech, providing valuable research experience.

As the Official Quantum Dog (or hound) by role is to dig out the latest nuggets of quantum goodness. There is so much happening right now in the field of technology, whether AI or the march of robots. But Quantum occupies a special space. Quite literally a special space. A Hilbert space infact, haha! Here I try to provide some of the news that might be considered breaking news in the Quantum Computing space.
