What is the Quantum Algorithms Institute?

Quantum Algorithms

British Columbia is dedicated to maintaining its status as a world authority on using quantum computing technologies to solve practical issues. With the founding of the Quantum Algorithms Institute in 2019 and the release of the Quantum Computing Cluster Strategy in 2020, the Province paved the way for the development of a robust quantum ecosystem that makes use of the public and private sector strengths in BC.

The Quantum Algorithms Institute (QAI), founded in 2020, is the company that aims to support British Columbia in maintaining its position as a global leader in the application of quantum computing technology to practical issues.

In addition to creating a talent pipeline with skills in developing quantum computing software and algorithms and the application of quantum technology to real-world problems, QAI will make use of the quantum computing cluster that already exists in academia and industry in BC.

The next generation of quantum talent will be developed by QAI, giving it a long-term advantage in this emerging, high-potential sector. This advantage will be achieved by encouraging partnerships between academia and industry.

By 2025, Quantum Algorithms Institute will be a global leader in training highly skilled experts in quantum computing, fundamental and quantum algorithmic research, and using quantum computing to solve real-world issues.

Their team is made up of professionals from business, academia, and government that have the same objective of utilizing BC’s quantum computing ecosystem. Part of the board of Directors are Landon Downs, Paul Gulyas, Tim Lesiuk, Cynthia Milton, Dugan O’Neil, Stephanie Simmons, and Murray Thom.
