Zapata Quantum sees value in QuEra’s 2028 hardware roadmap

Zapata Quantum is preparing applications to support QuEra Computing’s commitment to deliver a quantum system via Amazon Web Services in 2028. The partnership aims to proactively design and validate applications before full fault-tolerance is achieved, a strategy QuEra pursues with enterprises, government programs, and high-performance computing centers. This collaboration, alongside a separate partnership with NVIDIA, signals Zapata’s hardware-agnostic approach and focus on leveraging artificial intelligence to accelerate quantum algorithm development.

QuEra’s 2028 Megaquop System Drives Zapata Quantum Partnership

Sumit Kapur, CEO of Zapata Quantum, stated that QuEra’s commitment to delivering a megaquop-class system via AWS in 2028 is exciting for the field and something his company is looking forward to supporting from the application side. This commitment prompted a partnership between the two companies focused on proactively designing applications to run on future quantum hardware. The collaboration is part of the QuEra Quantum Alliance Program, designed to foster innovation and accelerate the path to commercial quantum solutions.

Zapata Quantum’s decision to partner with both QuEra and NVIDIA demonstrates a deliberate strategy of hardware agnosticism, allowing the company to leverage diverse technologies for quantum algorithm development. The company is applying “agentic AI” in conjunction with its work on neutral-atom quantum computing, aiming to accelerate the creation of viable quantum applications.

This approach allows Zapata to assess which quantum use cases will become commercially viable and develop the necessary algorithms before the hardware is fully mature. QuEra’s goal is to move beyond theoretical exploration and begin designing applications that can be tested and refined on near-term quantum systems.

“We are uniquely positioned as a hardware-agnostic partner to help enterprises identify which quantum use cases matter, assess when they will become viable, and develop the applications and algorithms needed to drive transformational business value as these systems come online,” Kapur added. This focus on practical application development before full fault-tolerance represents a shift in strategy for many in the quantum computing field, prioritizing demonstrable value alongside hardware advancements.
