D-Wave Unveils 1,200+ Qubit Advantage2 Prototype, Boosting Quantum Cloud Service With 20X Speed Increase

D-Wave Quantum Inc. has announced the availability of its 1,200+ qubit Advantage2 prototype via its Leap real-time quantum cloud service. The Advantage2 prototype, built with a new lower-noise, multilayer superconducting integrated-circuit fabrication stack, demonstrates significant performance gains on hard optimization problems and is expected to be particularly powerful for new use cases such as machine learning. The prototype features increased qubit connectivity, energy scale, and qubit coherence time, driving faster solutions. The technology is available to businesses, developers, and researchers globally.

D-Wave Unveils Advantage2â„¢ Prototype with Over 1,200 Qubits

D-Wave Quantum Inc., a company known for its contributions to quantum computing systems, software, and services, has announced the availability of its latest prototype, the Advantage2, which boasts over 1,200 qubits. This new prototype is accessible via the company’s Leap real-time quantum cloud service. Existing Leap service subscribers can access the Advantage2 prototype immediately, while newcomers can sign up and receive up to one minute of free use of the quantum processing units (QPUs) and quantum hybrid solvers, including the Advantage2 prototype.

The Advantage2 prototype was developed using a new lower-noise, multilayer superconducting integrated-circuit fabrication stack. This has resulted in significant performance improvements on hard optimization problems. The prototype is expected to be particularly effective for new applications such as machine learning.

Enhanced Features of the Advantage2 Prototype

The Advantage2 prototype, announced earlier this year, features over 1,200 qubits and more than 10,000 couplers, doubling the number of qubits and couplers compared to the previously released Advantage2 prototype. Benchmarks have shown substantial advancements across several performance metrics compared to the Advantageâ„¢ quantum processing unit (QPU).

The qubit connectivity has increased from 15 to 20-way connectivity, enabling solutions to larger problems. The energy scale has increased by more than 40%, delivering higher-quality solutions. The qubit coherence time has also doubled, expected to drive faster time-to-solution.

D-Wave’s Quantum Technology

The previously released Advantage2 experimental prototype has been heavily utilized by customers, solving over three million problems since its availability in 2022. This high usage rate indicates a strong demand for D-Wave’s evolving technology.

Ed Heinbockel, president and CEO of SavantX, emphasized the importance of quality in the new Advantage2 prototype. He noted that the significant increase in qubit quality expands the ability to apply D-Wave technology to more complex optimization challenges. This development opens up many new AI applications, accelerating deployment timelines significantly.

Mark W. Johnson, senior vice president of quantum technologies and systems products at D-Wave, marked the availability of the Advantage2 prototype as an important milestone in their product delivery roadmap. The performance gains observed with the Advantage2 prototype are remarkable, and D-Wave is excited to make it available to help customers start applying it to their complex problems now.
