Canada Invests $17.2M In Quantum Tech, Boosting Jobs And Advancing National Quantum Strategy

The Canadian government is investing over $17.2 million in 12 innovative companies within southern Ontario’s quantum sector. This will help advance and commercialize quantum products and solutions for domestic and global markets, supporting up to 150 jobs. The companies include AI Incorporated, CogniFrame Inc., Crypto4A Technologies Inc., Foqus Technologies Inc., ForeQast Technologies Limited, GoodLabs Studio Inc., High Q Technologies Inc., ISARA Corp, ProteinQure Inc., Qoherent Inc., Quantropi Inc., and Xanadu Quantum Technologies Inc. The projects range from quantum computing algorithms to quantum-secure encryption platforms, and quantum-enhanced medical imaging.

Government of Canada Invests in Quantum Technology Sector

The Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) has announced an investment of over $17.2 million in the quantum technology sector of southern Ontario. This funding will be distributed among 12 innovative companies, with the aim of advancing and commercializing their quantum products and solutions for both domestic and global markets. The investment is expected to support up to 150 jobs and is a significant step in advancing the Government of Canada’s National Quantum Strategy.

Quantum Technology Projects Receiving Funding

Among the recipients of this funding are AI Incorporated, CogniFrame Inc., and Crypto4A Technologies Inc. AI Incorporated will receive a repayable investment to support the late-stage product development of their Quantum SLAM technology. This technology combines two of the company’s previous technologies onto a single computer chip, enabling high speed, low cost mobile robotics solutions for products ranging from robot vacuum cleaners to autonomous vehicle lifts.

CogniFrame Inc. will use their repayable investment to create a cost-effective simulator that aims to make quantum computing accessible to Canadian start-ups and enterprises. The simulator is designed to lower entry barriers, particularly in health care and finance projects, making it easier for developers to adopt quantum technologies.

Crypto4A Technologies Inc., a company that develops and manufactures quantum-ready hardware security solutions in Ontario, will use their repayable investment to address evolving fundamental security challenges of the digital economy and support the manufacturing sector of Ontario.

Quantum Solutions for Healthcare and Logistics

Foqus Technologies Inc. and ForeQast Technologies Limited are two other companies that will benefit from this investment. Foqus Technologies will use the funding to accelerate the commercialization of its advanced quantum algorithm solutions, which enhance the sensitivity of sensors used in medical imaging, thereby improving the speed and quality of MRI scans.

ForeQast Technologies, on the other hand, will use the investment to accelerate the commercialization of their logistics solution. This solution identifies the most optimal and efficient delivery routes in supply chain industries, reducing the time and costs associated with deliveries.

Quantum Computing in Finance and Biopharmaceuticals

GoodLabs Studio Inc. and High Q Technologies Inc. are also among the recipients of this funding. GoodLabs Studio will use the investment to further the development of their quantum payment optimizer, which aims to reduce computation times and security risks related to the transfer of large-value payments between financial institutions.

High Q Technologies will use their repayable investment to support product enhancements as they launch their systems into the biopharmaceutical industry. This will aid in the process of discovering new forms of medicine.

Quantum Computing for Secure Communication and Drug Discovery

ISARA Corp and ProteinQure Inc. are two other companies that will benefit from this investment. ISARA Corp will use the funding to commercialize its network analysis tool, which can be used to support the migration of information systems to emerging quantum-enabled secured communication protocols.

ProteinQure Inc. will use their repayable investment to accelerate the development and commercialization of quantum computing into their technology platform. This platform uses advanced simulations and AI to discover new medicines.

Quantum Computing for Radio Signal Sensing and Data Protection

Qoherent Inc. and Quantropi Inc. are also among the recipients of this funding. Qoherent Inc. will use the investment to support the expansion of their quantum computing algorithm for radio signal sensing.

Quantropi Inc. will use their repayable investment to support the late-stage product development and deployment of their quantum-secure encryption platform. This platform provides users with secure coded functions to protect data, networks, and systems.

Quantum Computing for Practical Applications

Xanadu Quantum Technologies Inc. is another company that will benefit from this investment. They will use the funding to advance and improve their existing PennyLane software, a tool for programming quantum computers. Xanadu aims to optimize the software for practical applications in industries such as finance, materials, pharmaceuticals, and transportation.
