New York State is allocating sixty million dollars through the FY 2027 Budget to establish up to four Regional Quantum Technology Commercialization Hubs, with each hub potentially receiving up to fifteen million dollars. This initiative, proposed in Governor Hochul’s 2026 State of the State address, aims to accelerate the translation of quantum research into viable businesses and employment opportunities. The hubs, administered by Empire State Development’s NYSTAR division, will build upon the existing three hundred million dollar Quantum Research and Innovation Hub at SUNY Stony Brook, creating a statewide network.
$60 Million Initiative Funds Up To Four Regional Quantum Hubs
Applications to host one of these hubs are due October 14, 2026, indicating a rapid timeline for implementation and a focused effort to capitalize on quantum advancements. Empire State Development President, CEO and Commissioner Hope Knight said these new hubs will connect existing resources with the expertise, infrastructure, and partnerships needed to turn quantum discoveries into New York companies, good-paying jobs, and long-term economic growth.
NYSTAR Executive Director Ben Verschueren emphasized the long-term vision, stating that with these new hubs, the state is preparing its commercialization engine for the quantum era. Governor Hochul affirmed the state’s commitment, saying, “New York has never waited for the future to arrive — we invest in the people, ideas and infrastructure that will build it here.”
With this $60 million investment, we are creating regional hubs that will turn groundbreaking quantum research into growing companies, good-paying jobs and real-world solutions.
