NVIDIA DGX GB300 Supercomputer Powers Naval Postgraduate School

NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang commissioned a DGX GB300 system at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, bringing a powerful AI platform online for military education and research. The supercomputer provides over 1,500 resident students and 600 faculty with on-premises access to large-scale AI computing for applications including weather prediction, cybersecurity, and disaster resilience. “Our nation depends on our men and women who fight on the front lines. The DGX GB300 is not simply a hardware upgrade, but a foundational element of an NVIDIA AI Technology Center dedicated to AI research and graduate instruction. Admiral Samuel Paparo, commander of the U.S., emphasized the importance of this technological advancement, stating, “As we modernize our technology, we must also modernize how we educate our leaders.” The supercomputer will facilitate applications spanning weather prediction, cybersecurity protocols, and the development of disaster resilience and response planning, areas demanding substantial computational power. Researchers are already leveraging AI to model sea conditions, forecast atmospheric changes, and construct digital twins of complex environments, work directly applicable to NPS’s core scientific domains. This capability allows for the in-house training of foundation models and the execution of high-fidelity simulations at scale. The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) is actively integrating advanced artificial intelligence capabilities into its curriculum through a broadened collaboration with the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute. The Naval Postgraduate School is the military’s primary technical graduate university. Beyond NVIDIA’s core contribution, companies like DDN, VAST, and Vertiv played integral roles in bringing the supercomputer online, demonstrating that large-scale AI deployment requires collaborative expertise. DDN supplied high-performance data infrastructure, enabling NPS researchers to efficiently manage and scale the vast datasets required for demanding AI workloads. VAST Data provided a unified data platform, securing data access across multiple environments, while Vertiv addressed the physical demands of the system with specialized racks, cooling, and power infrastructure, including installation and ongoing monitoring.
