Pasqal Partners with University of Sherbrooke to Advance Quantum Computing

Pasqal, a world leader in neutral atom quantum computing, has partnered with the University of Sherbrooke to advance research and education in quantum computing. The collaboration aims to develop educational materials, train a quantum-ready workforce, and foster innovative research using Pasqal’s quantum technologies. Vincent Aimez, vice-rector for valorization and partnerships at the University of Sherbrooke, emphasized the institution’s long-standing commitment to quantum sciences and technologies. Pasqal’s CEO in Canada, Raphael de Thoury, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, which will contribute to the growth of the quantum computing industry.

The University of Sherbrooke has been investing in quantum sciences and technologies for over 40 years, with initiatives such as the Quantum Institute and a new bachelor’s degree in quantum information sciences. Pasqal, founded in 2019 by renowned scientists including Professor Dr Alain Aspect, winner of the 2022 Nobel Prize in physics, has raised over 140 million euros in funding to date.

Advancing Quantum Computing Education and Research through Collaboration

The University of Sherbrooke (UdeS) and Pasqal, a company specializing in neutral atom quantum computing, have entered into a collaboration agreement to advance research and education in the field of quantum computing. This partnership aims to develop educational materials, train a quantum-ready workforce, and foster innovative research using Pasqal’s quantum technologies.

One of the primary objectives of this collaboration is to improve educational initiatives by co-developing practical educational materials that prepare students for careers in quantum computing. These materials will equip students with the skills to use and further develop quantum technologies. Additionally, this partnership will facilitate joint research projects, offering researchers and students at UdeS the opportunity to develop their own software applications using Pasqal’s advanced hardware and software.

Pasqal will also offer internship opportunities to students at UdeS, providing them with valuable practical experience within a leading company in quantum computing. This initiative will help bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industrial applications, promoting a new generation of quantum computing professionals. To enhance the visibility of their collaboration, Pasqal and UdeS will jointly publish press releases, affirming their commitment to advancing quantum computing education and research.

Building a Quantum-Ready Workforce

The University of Sherbrooke has been investing in quantum sciences and technologies for over 40 years, with the goal of becoming a key player in the field. The creation of the Quantum Institute, the designation of the Innovation Quantum Zone in Sherbrooke, and the new bachelor’s degree in quantum information sciences are all examples of UdeS’ efforts to build a quantum-ready workforce.

Supporting Research and Innovation

Pasqal has been heavily invested in training and research in quantum computing since its launch in 2019. In Canada, Pasqal actively supports research groups focused on the industrial applications of quantum and is committed to supporting the creation of a research chair in quantum computing at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of UdeS.

Pasqal’s contribution, supported by federal and provincial grants, will reach more than 1 million dollars. This initiative aims to develop quantum software solutions based on neutral atoms and advance the field in collaboration with industrial users. A professorship is open, and applications can be submitted up to October 15.
