Quantum Delta Nl, A Dutch Quantum Technology Initiative, Has Announced Its Second 'Quantum Sme Call' Recipients. Six Small And Medium-Sized Enterprises (Smes) In The Quantum Field Have Been Granted 4.73 Million Euros.

Quantum Delta NL, a Dutch quantum technology initiative, has announced its second ‘Quantum SME call’ recipients. Six small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the quantum field have been granted 4.73 million euros.

Quantum Delta NL has awarded a total of €4.73 million to six Dutch quantum companies: Amsterdam Scientific Instruments B.V., Quantamap B.V., VTEC Lasers & Sensors, Software for Chemistry & Materials BV, Leiden Cryogenics B.V., and ImpaQT UA. The funding is part of an initiative to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the quantum technology sector. In collaboration with Nano4Society and MinacNed, the programme aims to connect 125 high-tech Dutch SMEs and has €35 million available over the next seven years. The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy is supporting this initiative. Quantum Delta NL aims to utilise the potential of Dutch quantum companies to benefit the Dutch economy and society.

An expert committee of scientists, investors, and entrepreneurs evaluated eighteen project proposals based on several criteria. These included alignment with Quantum Delta NL’s agenda, technological potential, project plan quality, commercial viability, and economic and social impact. The selected companies will receive funding for innovation projects to develop essential products and services in the quantum technology value chain.

This annual call allows SMEs to submit individual or public-private consortium projects ranging from €500,000 to €2 million.

Quantum Technology Development

The Netherlands has become a significant player in the global quantum technology development scene, mainly due to the strength of its national ecosystem. While quantum companies hold considerable potential for future revenue models in the Netherlands and Europe, many deep-tech companies face challenges securing capital. The Quantum Delta NL SME programme, which includes this call, aims to facilitate access to such funding.

The programme, a joint effort of Quantum Delta NL, Nano4Society, and MinacNed, aims to connect 125 high-tech Dutch SME companies to enhance the added value of SMEs in quantum technology. Over the next seven years, 35 million euros will be available. Companies are also required to contribute 17 million euros in cash or in-kind.

The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy actively encourages technological innovations in industries like quantum through the National Growth Fund. The objective is to ensure a robust future economy for the Netherlands through digitisation and sustainability.

Quantum Delta NL’s Support for Early-Stage Start-ups

Quantum Delta NL has previously launched a micro-fund to support early-stage quantum start-ups and Infinity. This programme fosters connections among Dutch quantum start-ups at all phases. This is part of their effort to transform scientific knowledge from laboratories into new ventures in the Netherlands and Europe.

Impact of the Funding on the Recipient Companies

The winners of this call will receive a significant boost in scaling their ideas into successful start-ups or scale-ups. This funding will enable them to develop essential products and services in the quantum technology and its derivative products value chain, contributing to the Dutch economy and society.

“Establishing a thriving business ecosystem is a fundamental driver of the Quantum Delta NL program. Our goal is to transform scientific knowledge from laboratories into new ventures in the Netherlands and Europe. The winners of this call will receive a significant boost in scaling their ideas into successful start-ups or scale-ups.”
