IQM Quantum Computers Unveils 20-Qubit Garnet on Amazon Braket, Boosting Quantum Computing Access

IQM Quantum Computers has made its 20-qubit quantum processing unit, IQM Garnet, available through Amazon Web Services’ quantum computing service, Amazon Braket. This marks the first time IQM’s quantum computers are accessible via the cloud in a self-service, on-demand model. The move also expands Amazon Braket’s availability to the AWS Europe (Stockholm) Region, making IQM’s Garnet the first quantum processing unit available to AWS customers within the European Union. The high-fidelity processor is designed to boost algorithm performance and provide high quantum volume. Dr. Jan Goetz, Co-CEO of IQM, and Richard Moulds, general manager of Amazon Braket, expressed excitement over the partnership.

IQM Quantum Computers Introduces IQM Garnet on Amazon Web Services

IQM Quantum Computers, a company specializing in the construction of quantum computers, has announced that its 20-qubit quantum processing unit (QPU), IQM Garnet, will be accessible to researchers, scientists, and developers via Amazon Braket, Amazon Web Services’ quantum computing service. This marks a significant development as it is the first time IQM’s quantum computers are available in a self-service, on-demand model through the cloud. Customers can also reserve dedicated access to the system via Braket Direct.

Expansion of AWS Region Availability

In conjunction with this announcement, Amazon Braket is extending its AWS Region availability to the AWS Europe (Stockholm) Region. This expansion makes IQM’s Garnet the first QPU available to AWS customers and hosted within the European Union. This move is expected to address important data residency requirements and expand possibilities for customers in the European Union.

IQM Garnet’s High Connectivity and Fidelity

IQM Garnet features a square lattice topology, which allows for one of the highest levels of connectivity to run quantum algorithms with improved accuracy. The processor also exhibits a median two-qubit (CZ) gate fidelity of 99.51% across 30 qubit pairs, with the highest fidelity over a single pair reaching up to 99.8%. This high fidelity is achieved through IQM’s unique tunable couplers, which are designed to enhance algorithm performance and provide high quantum volume and full entanglement across the entire processor.

The Impact of IQM Garnet on Quantum Computing Research

The integration of IQM Garnet into Amazon Braket is expected to provide more options to AWS customers experimenting with quantum computing. Richard Moulds, general manager of Amazon Braket, expressed excitement over the expansion of their commitment to EU customers with locally hosted hardware. IQM Garnet is designed to accelerate research in quantum optimization, simulation, and machine learning algorithms across various fields such as life sciences, chemistry, and other industrial applications.
