Quantum Computing Pioneers Join Alice & Bob’s Board to Achieve Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing

Quantum computing company Alice & Bob has added four pioneers to its Consultative Board: Daniel Gottesman, known for proving quantum error correction codes can achieve a fault-tolerant quantum computer; David DiVincenzo, who defined the five minimal requirements for a quantum computer; John Martinis, lead author of Google’s 2019 quantum supremacy paper; and Yasunobu Nakamura, one of the creators of the qubit. Their expertise will guide the company towards achieving fault-tolerant quantum computing.

Quantum Computing Consultative Board Formation

Alice & Bob, a company focused on quantum computing, has recently announced the formation of their Consultative Board. The board comprises four renowned experts in quantum computing: Daniel Gottesman, David DiVincenzo, John Martinis, and Yasunobu Nakamura. These individuals are expected to provide valuable insights and guidance on the company’s long-term strategy and key milestones.

Daniel Gottesman, a professor known for his work on the Gottesman-Knill Theorem, is one of the members of the newly formed board. Gottesman’s theorem was a significant contribution to the field of quantum computing, as it was the first to demonstrate that quantum error correction codes could be used to achieve a fault-tolerant quantum computer. This involves using specific techniques and architectures to correct for noisy quantum systems and prone to errors. Another member of the board, David DiVincenzo, is known for formalizing the “DiVincenzo Criteria.” These are the five minimal requirements that still define what can be called a quantum computer today. DiVincenzo first proposed these criteria while working as an IBM researcher in 1996. His understanding of the fundamental requirements of quantum computing will be crucial in guiding Alice & Bob’s strategic direction.

John Martinis, another board member, was the lead author of Google’s quantum supremacy paper published in 2019. This paper is considered one of the most famous quantum experiments to date. Quantum supremacy refers to the point at which quantum computers can perform tasks that classical computers cannot. Martinis’ experience in this groundbreaking research will benefit Alice & Bob as they navigate the rapidly evolving field of quantum computing.

The final member of the board, Yasunobu Nakamura, is recognized as one of the pioneers of the qubit, a fundamental unit of quantum information. Nakamura was the first to control a Cooper pair box, the first superconducting qubit. His expertise in the practical application of quantum computing principles will be a valuable asset to Alice & Bob as they continue their work in this field.
